THE Practice Basket?

I tend to see the stack of putters as the common trend in MN. If you go with only 2-3 you are waiting an annoyingly long time to retrieve.

No I wouldn't. I have zero qualms about retrieving my discs before the stack o' putters guy finishes. I'm not there to watch him putt, I'm there to get myself prepared for my round.

I warm up for a round with the discs I'm going to be carrying for that round. I'm not dragging a stack out of the car just to warm up and then have to put them away again before I start my round.

Great, I bet you go to foreign countries and insist on paying in dollars as well.

Take a chill pill dude, I am only reporting what to expect in MN. And in MN you can expect a group of people with a stack of discs, and you will be the only guy with two.

For larger events ,multi day, I usually bring my own basket on wheels so I can putt solo. Kinda nice having your own basket to yourself, no one should be in the way while you do your thing.

Do not putt outside the circle, with Xcals, while on the phone either talking or texting or listening to some type of garbage country pop music, Coldplay, Blink 182 or Fallout Boy. These are all scenarios I have witnessed. I typically go out to a hole and putt instead of hanging out at the practice basket for these reasons.

Stacks of putters are for at home practice.

Besides, you're not going to have 8 putters with you when you're putting during the round.

Also don't be the guy who only goes for the 80 foot putts.

Whooo... People getting heated. Gotta love interwebs conversations!

Obviously just regional differences. Usually time around the practice basket warming up is relaxing, chatting with the guys you'll be playing with, hanging out. In my area, I'd range 4 out of 5 people will have at least 5 putters at the basket. If someone comes in and is rude and unfriendly because they warm up different, it's not helping anyone (including themselves) by having that attitude. I have a specific stack of practice putters that I like - I bring 6 - and I typically still have plenty of time standing around as people tend to take their time and go at their own pace. If you're in a rush to get 100 putts in and want to be belligerent, that's on you.

The argument that more than 2 putters should be strictly for home practice strikes me as odd. That means you're spending more time walking than putting. I'd rather have 4-5 guys with a small stack (nothing crazy like a full backpack of Aviars) that can throw 5-6 putts, then retrieve.

Different strokes for different folks. I'll always just try to keep it friendly and positive.

Exactly! The 80 foot putt is so unnecessary unless they are practicing lay ups. Reminds me of the adults at college football games that throw footballs 30 yards back and forth to their six year olds in crowded parking lots while people are tailgating and walking around.

I feel like a donkey, but really, ask Ms. Martha about putting etiquette? Are manners that hard to figure out? whether you have a stack, or two? I'd think an awareness of the guys around you would be sufficient to put you on a reasonable course. I can't help it, but I get this feeling from some that this is a - there should be a rule, and if some guy isn't exactly on that rule I get to hate on him - kind of thing.

On the other hand, I find those guys fishing their discs out of the basket to be a great moving target... I always save one disc and wait for them to make their move.

Is it a practice basket for practice or a warmup basket for warmups? I see people finish their rounds and head over and throw 5-8 putters for a good 1/2 hour practicing, but pre-round warm-up how many throws do you take?

I'm a crap putter but similar to any other sport before a competition I will only do enough of this type of action to get the feel. As soon as I get a few in a row that my grip/release/motion feels about right I'm done. Sometimes 6 throws sometimes 20 usually in the 10 range. There always feels like diminishing returns in this sort of thing to me.

I hate when the course is slow and I'm practicing some putts, looking forward to a relaxed round, when all of a sudden several cars full of bros show up and the course is instantly crowded. That's why if it's slow, I usually start immediately, wait until I'm a few holes in and then practice for a bit.

This was more along the lines of what I was questioning. I have a local pitch and putt where the core player is huge groups of dx throwing, sandal wearing, grocery bag carrying, girlfriends playing for the very first time (and the bros for there second) 2 disc carrying frolfers.

I've gone to the practice basket before a round when these folks are on it, and just say "mind if I put" and they give a bewildered look like I'm just jumping in. But, this is a very beginner course. Other higher level courses with better players seem to understand the round the horn type putting basket etiquette.

This is what I was thinking. I don't play a lot... No, I virtually never play on a crowded course due to my location and the courses I play. And I haven't played in a tourney in a few years. But...

In the case of casual rounds and daily use, it seems to me that the "extra" basket should certainly be for practice. Take a whole bag of putters if you want. Just be considerate... I know it's hard for some people.

In a tourney, though, you should already have your practice in. So that "extra" basket becomes a warm up basket, imo. I don't see the need for fifty putts. Heck, warming up your whole body, by walking back and forth to the basket, is probably as important as warming up your putting motion.

Ultimately, do I really care how many discs you use at the extra basket? No I don't. Just go with the flow and be courteous. Again, sadly, easier said than done for many.

Watch your back and watch your face. It sucks to start a round with a bloody lip or busted nose. Best to find a non-crowded basket or bring your own portable.

I think there are 2 scenarios here: actual practice basket at beginning of course and before a tournament round walking out to your hole and practicing on a basket before the round starts.
Practice basket: free for all, bring as many putters as you want, be courteous to all
Tournament practice before round starts: two or three putters (who wants to carry 8 putters), be courteous to all

don't ninja run up to pick up your one putter, let the others toss a few.

I dont know which i find more annoying, the guy who only uses one putter and keeps running back and forth or the guy who brings about 100 putters and keeps chain firing at the basket while you try to pick up your sensible 2-3 putters.

Anyway, dont be either of those guys.

I was using the practice basket at Central and some dumb mofo hit me in the shin with a Z Crush... I kid you not. I fought the urge to pick up his Crush and launch it on top of the apartments on the other side of Regent Ave. I mean, seriously, who putts with a Z Crush?
