[Innova] Dick's / Meijer Conspiracy Theory, Plus Help Choose Best Innova Discs

Is there truly anything different about these, and if so, how is that achieved?

Hmm, typically it's the plastic: Swirly Star, Splatter Star, Color Glow Champion, McPro, etc. Sometimes you can get the same type of plastic through CFR discs (such as ColorGlow Firebirds which are basically the same as Sextons), but not always. Sometimes they also say that they are running them to fly either more or less overstable depending on the wishes of the pro in question (such as Hannah Terns or Madison Shrykes which are both more overstable than typical). I would guess that they achieve that through tweaks during the cooling times or perhaps flatting.

One thing I'd like to see at big boxes is an MVP style chart that correlates distance with flight. i.e. if you throw 250', expect to see this Leopard fly like ____/, whereas with 350' of distance expect to see \____/. Poor illustrations, but you get the idea.

I also know it'll never happen because no big box wants to see a flight chart for newbs that looks like:

Katana: __/
Beast: __/
Groove: __/
Shryke: __/

I want to see a video from the big box stores showing exactly how the discs get so out of order. Are people picking them up, looking at them, then walking 3 rows over to replace? I have to rearrange our Academy twice a week! lol

I don't think I've EVER seen a Dick's or Sports Authority with the discs arranged by mold. Heck, I'm not even sure they have enough racks to arrange them by mold. I mean 3 rows?? Does Academy really have 3 rows worth of discs? I've never been to an Academy (none in my area), but they must have a better selection than the big sports stores around here.

Stay / Keep:
Destroyer (Star PMBs have been nice lately!)
Wraith
Firebird
Teebird
Aviar
Roc3 / Roc
Star and GStar plastic in all above

Add / More:
Nova
KC Pro Aviar
Paul McBeth Aviar
Roc3X
Shryke

Cut / Stop:
Groove
Daedalus
Boss
Katana

Some of this strikes me as favoring the "flavor of the year". For example, wanting to include Shrykes but have less Daedalii and Katanas...aren't those all sort of the same slot (flippy warp speed drivers)?

In a few years, I can see a new thread where someone is complaining that their local big box is overstocked with Shrykes--that nobody throws anymore!--but doesn't have any of [whatever the newest flippy distance driver is that's supposed to give you 50' more max D].

That's not to say that the OP is completely misguided; this is just a list of what's hot/selling right now. Part of the game for these large retailers is that they buy a huge bulk of whatever they're buying and it's on the shelves for a while.

In that regard, a lot of the classic molds in the "Keep" category make a lot of sense: FB, TB, Rocs, AVR...those aren't going anywhere. I suppose you can probably add Destroyer to that list, not because it's objectively a better mold than some other options, but because it's become such a standard that similar options are dying off in popularity. *coughBOSScough* Sadly, you can probably include Wraith with the list of molds that have become victems of the ubiquity of the Destroyer.

Academy is actually okay. I could walk into Academy and make a serviceable bag.

They have some Innova/Millennium, Discraft and a good bit of DD with some Lat64 sprinkled in.

Got some sweet Vipers there for $5 that they got by accident.

Academy has gone through a pretty big change over the last year. Used to be mostly Innova with a smattering of Discraft. Now, Dynamic is showing up big time. Off the top of my head, my local store has labeled bins for: Boss/Destroyer/Colossus/Tern/Tie Dye(mixed molds)/Shark/Wraith/Beast/Cobra/Atlas/Aviar/Defender/EMac Truth/Freedom/Sheriff/Truth/Escape/Judge/Avenger SS/Challenger and probably a few more. Various plastics.

The Academy near me has stopped carrying Millenium and is carrying less and less Discraft and more and more Eurocrap

Why is anyone even buying innova in the first place? At best, youre taking a shot in the dark. You could buy a tern that flies more like a destroyer is "supposed to" or "advertised to fly".

The Academy near me has a pretty good selection of Innova and Discraft discs, and their Trilogy selection is increasing. And it seems that when they get a new order in, they put it on the shelves in good order; it's after customers look at discs and put them in the wrong place that the discs get all mixed up...

I have had very little consistency problems with the Innova made discs that I have thrown a decent variety of (Polecats, Gazelles, Rocs, Makos, OLFs). The only one I have had problems with is the Valk and I had just as many problems with Escapes when I tried those

I threw a person who just bought a new champ sidewinder from the factory store "recently".

I would compare it to how a spd is advertised to fly.

Somethings never change..
