I just bought a champ eagle x last week to see what the fuss is about. I currently throw teebirds and firebirds with good success (firebird is my favorite fairway). I have a consistent 375power. Sometimes I'll go over 400 on a good throw on a warm day (not like this frozen Midwest weather). The eagle I purchased is 170g. Good god this thing is dumb overstable. Mayne it's the cold weather but I can get this thing to ride flat at all. My champ 167g firebird goes farther. I can throw my kids farther than the eagle. I even tried running it over a few times and throwing rollers on concrete with it. Damn thing falls out the sky. I knew it would be stable but this seems un-throwable. Am I not good enough to harness the eagle?

Most posters on DGCR have massive OAT and love terrifyingly OS discs that hide their form errors. I would say your inability to keep that disc flat is more evidence that you are good enough to throw it and witness it's OS flight path without OATing it over.

They can be more stable then Firebirds for sure. You might look at the numbers and think, yeah OK. I throw the same as you (400 sometimes,) and also have a 169 g Eagle X in Champion and it starts to fade basically right out of my hand. I also have a 175 FAF Star Eagle X that is even MORE OS then that one. It looks and flies like a tiny bit slower FAF FB.

I would say this is common to find many if not most to be beefcakes.

I have a Champion Eagle X that is also very OS, like a firebird. I've had Star Eagle X's that were much more workable for me. Still OS, but they would fly straight for a while before fading. They were 165-168g. I max out at about 300'.

I was hoping this would be the disc that flies like a wraith/destroyer but goes 330 with tons of control. Not sure if it is but I'll keep working with it and maybe it will evolve into something special.

I have a Champ Eagle and I love it for that reliable fade (aced for the first time with it last week).

How do I tell if it is an X or an L (attached an image) ?

The L is a flat wing and straighter. The x is a concave wing, and more over stable.

Maybe. But you should never underestimate Innova's ability to make discs from the same mold that fly completely different. If you do some searching through this forum you will find people with Eagle X's that fly like Firebirds and others that fly like Leopards.

You can keep beating on your and it might come around or you could buy another one and see if it fits your needs a little better(I recommend trying a Star one.)

Thanks to you both. That explains why my flock of Eagles fly pretty differently.

Champ - very overstable
Barsby 2020 Star - somewhat overstable
Star Infused - slight turn, then fade
DX - turn and fade
old DX given to me - big turnover disc

Unless it says -L, it's usually an X. Discs are labelled X and L when both molds are run around the same time. X is the standard. I have yet to see an embossed L in premium plastic. There was a star run of Ls a couple of years back, penned, and a Champion run of Ls during the patent era.

The only one I know of which announces that outright is the gstar editions of the eagle. Neither my Star or Champ ones announce it until you feel the wing.

Yeah should have been more specific. The Gstar is the only one that I'm aware of that lists it on the hot stamp. I was referring to the penning on the back.
