Looked up his rating detail and he had a lot of 1030 rated rounds last year. If he is more focused and in better shape, I don't see any reason why he can't cash at MPO events and maybe make a card here or there.

I think you'll see him string together some solid rounds at events and place higher than some more well known names. I don't necessarily think that'll mean top 2 cards, maybe you'll see him after a hot round make a filmed round, but I could see him placing in the 20-30 range.

No doubt the guy has seen and done a lot, and still wants to go out and compete. Ultimately I think the end goal for him is to solidify the coaching/lesson path. Over the last few years he's kinda popped up here and there briefly, but I think the combination of new player growth, social media, and other factors make it a bit more feasible now. The biggest hurdle is that the largest bulk of players now don't have any idea who he is, so you've gotta get out there and "build your brand".

The Eagle's Crossing skins match is interesting, it's very cool that he was invited to participate. I know some people eyeroll at him and Brodie getting invited, saying it's a waste and neither stand a chance of making any money. To me I see it as entertainment, the round is gonna be filmed, and those rounds are definitely more entertaining when there's some friendly trash talk. I could see them both delivering on that end. We've said before that dg might be better off if it had a bit of a WWF element, maybe a bit of trash talk between players. I could see him playing a pretty good heel, similar to Nikko.

Over/under 4 years before DGPT has a true "silver" series of 40+ year old players. These guys are still really popular - I'd watch every minute of a final with Avery, Stokely, Feldberg and JohnE.

Philo would be great too. If we're willing to wait 4-5 years then I'm pretty sure McBeth, Big Jerm and Uli would qualify also

Skins matches take unique special shots, not consistent high levels of play. Either of those two would be fine in a skins match.

I can see SS competing well at stops like Idlewild, where precision is more important than raw distance. But it really comes down to putting. It always does, regardless of the tour stop.

Now places like Emporia, those are tough for the middle and lower raw distance throwers. I know SS USED to have world records, but I don't know how his distance is these days--I did not yet watch the video, sounds like they are low quality, that drives me crazy so I will probably pass, though I like both SS and Mason.

I just hope he doesn't do so poorly that it hurts his training business. Not too many top level players are offering the help he is these days. I think if he can get a few top 25 finishes that would be great for him.
"Look at me--I am X years old, and I am competing with the top talent in the world every week. Imagine how good I can help you be!"

I caught a bit of the livestream yesterday and the weather looked poor. It will be interesting to see how he goes this year. He filmed a round with Simon Lizotte sometime last year at Maple Hill and appeared to play really well.

I saw that, which is what made me think he might be pretty competitive.

IMO he'll do well in the big-$ skins match because of the different style of play needed under that format. It rewards hyper-aggressive play since the skin will often push, and SS has an ability to pull out 4-5 'WOW' shots a round, even if he can no longer do it on 18 consecutive holes.

Stokely has been on the road fulltime for the past couple years doing small group training classes. As I understand it, he does this all over the country, in addition to hitting up a tournament or two along the way.
Last year, during DGLO, he had a session in the Detroit area (Firefighters DGC). I was lucky enough to grab one of the 6 available slots. It was an all day event (with lunch included). I would highly recommend attending one of his sessions.
Side note, I handed him an OG X-Clone (a disc mold he used to set a distant record, once upon a time), and he gave it a hurl for somewhere in the neighborhood of 450 feet.
I look forward to seeing what he will do this upcoming season.

He was the second best player in the World for a period of time and held both forehand and backhand distance world records- not bad for "so-so."

You are correct....but that was then. My comment was about his ability now. Does he have the same ability he did back then? Or will he be a so-so pro now?

He will be just like the rest of the 50 year old competition in MPO, doing his best to keep up.

Most 40 year old struggle with that task but maybe one weekend of the year they catch lighting in the bottle and end up near the top.

Heck kids in the 20's and 30's struggle to keep up with the top 10.

50+ good luck, but not likely. He most likely gunning to finish above the cash line in each event.

Just not sure how he is going to get into the events to play

I'm trying to catch up on the DGPT rules this year. Based on this page:
https://www.dgpt.com/schedule/register/tour-pass/

Are *only* people with a tour card able to attend DGPT events those ? Or are those just people who are guaranteed attendance & there are more slots beyond that allowed to play at events? If so, how are those decided?

Interesting that they have this exception:
"US Players rated at or above 1015 (MPO) / 915 (FPO) who apply for a waiver to access the tour card based on special circumstances."

Even there, Stokely doesn't currently qualify, so I'm interested in how this will shake out in general this year.

Does it have to be a DGPT top 10, for example, to consider his season successful? Maybe between cleaning up B-tiers and giving lessons, Scott could do pretty well for himself - maybe even end up with more $$ than say, Gannon Buhr with a top 10 finish or two. His visibility might be less than on the big YT channels, but he seems to be pretty good at marketing himself at a local level.

For those who aren't aware, Scott has been crushing it on social media plus clinics for the past few years. He's doing well enough in that area (in-person conversation) that he's donating any tour winnings to local charities if/when he cashes. He's doing the tour as a personal challenge, bringing his disc golf "troopador" educator persona to a wider audience and giving back when he can. He will likely see just competing and completing the tour even without a top 5 or even top 10 finish as a success in his storybook worthy life.
