European Open 2023

She could move forward toward it with next update...

She's going to be dropping a 954 that will be over 1 year old.

And then adding PCS and this event... she shot on average 17 points below her rating at PCS across 3 rounds, and now with 2 out of 4 in the books at EO she is averaging 24 points above her rating.

Additionally - she's gonna go from 65 rated rounds to 71, so going from 17 to 18 double weighted rounds...

Her six oldest double weighted rounds at the moment are 984, 967, 991, 993, 1023, 979. Those get replaced by the 7 rounds at EO and PCS... 960, 972, 999, 1016, 1020, ????, ????

At the very bottom she's going to be doubling a few rounds worse than the ones that are outgoing, but overall she's got an improved batch of double weighted rounds depending on how she closes out EO.
As things stand currently she's moving up 0.77 rating. Two more ~1018 rounds and it will be 2.15 rating.

I find your lack of hype disturbing

I guess its the time difference but wow, this site is dying and/or people dont care about a Major when its off US turf

Im a sad panda.

Anywhoo... Being on site was thrilling. We sat on the tee 1 bleachers looking at the big screen when Eagle hit center band on hole 9. The eruption from the bleacher crowd and from the actual hole 9 crowd from mere 250 meters away was electric. Got me all tingly.

Walked 10-11 with the crowd and chilled on the hill until they came back to 15, and walked the rest. Hordes of people. You cant really see much at times, and not always you see who is even throwing. You can see the action much better on live video. But the atmosphere cant be beat. Its something else. This sport has really come far to have these kinds of events and crowds.

The video doesnt really do justice. Watching the drives on 10 and 11 in real life shows you that they really do play another type of game. The discs are freaking rocket ships. It wasnt the first time watching top pros, but I must have forgotten. And how glad was I to be reminded.

I haven't figured out how to do quotes yet on this version DGCR… awesome you're there in person! I hear the Discmania shop on-site is epic with unreleased plastics/discs.

I LOVE that MPO tees off in the morning, and have watched every minute of live. Eagle shot himself in the foot on hole 18 with two OB! Barela too, but not as bad.

Who's that new forehand specialist? Was it Rasmus? Fun to watch.

Kyle looked good. Calvin looked good. Some of the EU players maybe lost a few strokes. Tomorrow will be epic.

Also no Paul on lead card for the first time in a decade. Times are changing.

I'd like to see Eagle or Kyle win for Discmania. I'd also be happy with another underdog like Ezra (either of them) or Ellis. Not gonna lie, I'm rooting against Vinny.

Is there any coverage of this event?

Watching Cat Allen recently, I think she's playing her best overall disc golf I've seen. Her putting is definitely the best I've seen from her.

Just watched highlights of the President's cup, and I think it's pretty cool that disc golf is on the radar of a company as big and prominent a Ford. N o missing the Ford logo on the backs of all the players, or all around the island green, including the basket.

That's got to be the most recognizable name I've ever seen on a disc golf course.

DGN paywall + time difference. Seems pretty similar to the USDGC kind of hype the past few years. Overall I think there has been less enthusiasm for following along with any of the Pro tour events/Majors from the more casual fans if they can't watch post produced next day or final round live for 'free'. MPO live is on in the early morning for Western states in the US so most viewers are just catching the last couple hours of the live I expect. Eastern/Central US time zones can watch the full round at more normal AM times :)coffee: might kick in by hole 4 ).

Crowds look sizeable out there even from the drone coverage overhead. The course does set up nicely for spectating since the OB areas and walking paths leave a lot of space for spectators to follow around and still see the shots. 'Shorter' course in a more confined park condenses the crowds a bit compared to the courses used for most recent US majors ('22 Worlds at ECC & Jones Supreme, Champions Cup at WR Jackson, and USDGC all close to or longer than 10,000' for MPO).

Seeing the scores/stats come in makes me think that last year's McMahon/McBeth shootout was held under pretty ideal conditions. This year seems like the wind is pretty impactful and has been a real challenge for players to adjust.

Is there any coverage of this event?
Jomez & MDG Media post produced coverage is on DGN only for a couple weeks. The media rights were sold to DGN exclusively as Jussi mentioned in his Upshot podcast interview which helped to provide a large portion of the purse.

Thanks and I agree with your assessment. Eliminating post production makes this event as irrelevant as USDGC. I have ZERO interest in anything DGN or DGPT. To be honest, my very small interest in the pro side of the game has really diminished to nothing.

That is funny because these European events have been the ones I have watched more attentively and been more entertained by this year(watching live and/or post produced) than anything that has been put out previously. For me the time zones work out perfectly for evening viewing so that probably helps.
The longer we've had live the more it seems it really requires an aligning of the stars for it to be worth investing that much time to watch start to finish. The course has to be good for play and for the video crews. The field needs to be competitive, commentary needs to be good. If any of those things is off, I'm out.
Generally I watch even less post produced now too. I invariably get spoiled on results, which I'll admit is my fault, but if I do get spoiled I almost certainly am not going to spend even an hour and a half on post.

I got DGN specifically for this. In the next month I should be able to catch a couple good US tourneys too. Likely cancel it then, and get the USDGC thing again next. I had it for the first major of the year also. When was Worlds again? Oh yeah, might have to factor that in too.

Yes, the European season has been fantastic and it's shame there is no post-produced available during the tournament. I'll likely not bother in a month.

Great finish by Heidi … fantastic to take second.

I guess we can consider that the "unofficial" career major grand slam (Worlds, US, European, Players/Champions cup)... or does Kristin need to go win the Japan open now?

Nice play from Heidi..strong putter but 18OBs…
Wow, Heidi is not really known as a strong putter, historically it has been one of the weakest parts of her game, but it looks like she putted lights out this tournament.
