We do the card draw but experienced players get black cards and newer players get red. Helps new players get introduced to the older players in a more comfortable setting and they tend to learn a bit if they're not to shy to ask questions.
Don't make other plans for the day. We usually do something social after an ace race. BYOBBBQ or something along those lines. Take it as an opportunity to have fun and meet some other locals and get to know the local club.
Somehow make the tournament less important to you. In playing poker the one sure way for me to lose is to need the money. Take away the need and my a game comes out.

There's a lean-too on my home course right at the end of the fairway on a pretty short hole. Playing one morning my friend threw his disc right in there and tried his best to sneak around the bum sleeping in it, he failed and we got a good laugh at their combined screams of surprise.
I got another one today. Playing a round I played through with another group and one guy see's my wraith and notices the "Fetus" written on it. Says "No way! I thought I was the only one that had a fetus disc around here." So I got my valk back.
