Any kind of tournament for a 6 hole course?

Our small little town will have a 6 hole course (most we can get for our parks).

Is there any kind of tournament we can have to get people interested? Or is 9 pretty mandatory. We could get 3 more baskets if they were not permanent 9 and they would be boring). We still need to raise money for the course as it is!

suggestions?? Ideas?

Something like an Ace Race where things are a bit more casual and you can get away with a flex start and groups of 6 makes it a little easier to do that kind of event, especially if you have some other fun side event(s) going on while people are waiting for their round(s).

In Minnesota, at Moir Park in Burnsville, they have an annual event called Moir Madness, or something like that.

*** I have not ever played in this event ***

I think they have four rounds. For a few of the rounds, they mix up the game. They hand out a gimmicky disc that you have to use for one of the rounds, a second round they make you throw with your off hand, and so on. Grab a set of the Ript Card game for some more ideas.

They seem to have a great turnout/following. It takes place on a shorter course with saucer baskets, which adds to the mystique.

Play a second round backward (to the same baskets but from safari tees) to mix things up.

Played a pretty neat ace race last year where they had three temp tees for each of nine holes, coming in from different angles. You could do that to make an interesting 18, but you could only really have 24-30 folks playing (4-5 on a card) and staying safe.

I am going to suggest you get as many temporary baskets as possible and then run a team match play championship. That way you give people a chance to win even if they are not winning their match. Have a BBQ. Play other games in between rounds. It is more of a fun day kind of thing.

A 6-hole course would make a perfect doubles venue. Play it once with best shot (captain's choice), once with alternate shot and once with best score. You can also opt for worst shot (other team decides which throw you take).
