Since Idlewild's initial creation by Fred Salaz and Robert Herbert, it was clear that there was something special in the making. Over the past 15 years, Idlewild has been widely hailed as one of the best courses in the world. The meteoric growth of the Idlewild Open stems equally from the amazing course as well as the amazing management of the event that comes from fellow owners at The Nati, Jason Kerl and Adam Jones.

The course will challenge the best players in the world with its 18 hole, par 67 layout. From its 1000' par 5 to its tight 280' holes, from its long straight bombs that require landing zone accuracy to its large number of dog legs that require intense shot shaping, this course is ready to test the best. Make plans to watch in-person or online August 7-9th.

Couple weeks away and its looking like a strong field this year. Pretty much all the top guys except Simon, GG and Sexton...

...assuming Kentucky doesn't shut down again before then.:|

"Therefore, the governor said he has issued a travel advisory, asking Kentuckians who have traveled to nine states reporting positive testing rates equal or greater than 15% for COVID-19 testing.

As of Monday afternoon, those state include Alabama (18.13%), Arizona (23.56%), Florida (18.72%), Georgia (15.24%), Idaho (18.15%), Nevada (19.14%), South Carolina (15.71%) and Texas (15.10%). The rate of positive patient tests in Mississippi is nearing 15%, so travelers to Mississippi are also asked to voluntarily self-isolate for 14 days, the governor said."

Don't know how that will affect the players. He also brought the number of people in a gathering from 50 down to 10.

Spectators are not allowed at all this year. Only way to see any live disc golf is if you're a spotter/live scoring volunteer.

With that in mind, I took a vacation day on Friday and signed up to do the live scoring for 2 cards. I'd love to do more, but we'll be busy Sat. and Sun. with family stuff.

Here's the caddy book if anyone is interested...

The only noticeable change I could find, is the new basket location for Hole 2. Its been moved back even more than last year and also closer to the lake. Its definitely a much trickier location, where you now have a death putt for anything short or pin high right and also has the chance for a roll into the lake if you hit the basket from short or pin high left.

Looks like jomez(MPO Lead) CCDG(MPO Chase) and GK Pro(FPO Lead) will be on post pro.

Its too bad CCDG can't do a CvC while they're in town. Lincoln Ridge Park would be a perfect place for one and is only 10-15min from Idlewild...Its almost too perfect considering how similar a course it is to Dela. 24 holes of uo and down and left to right. Lots of elevation change. Mostly par3s but some very difficult ones. A few open holes mixed in with great woods holes... and even has a top of the world type of shot to finish.

Looking to roll up there for a casual round tomorrow or Wednesday PM. Anyone know if they'll have OB marked and/or elevated baskets in by tomorrow afternoon?

Are you playing in the tourney? The course is closed to non-participants all week starting today until the tourney ends.

Looks like the landing area for the 2nd/3rd throw on hole 16 is much tighter, maybe its just the drawing, but I don't recall the creek being so close to the main O/B areas...if it is that close now, I see a lot fewer eagles happening...heck, fewer birdies too.

I think that's just the drawing. If you look at the way they have circle 1 and 2 drawn up, the green isn't that big. Circle 1 is probably 10ft on the fairway side of the creek in real life.

From the PDGA:

Courses are required to be set up for the first-round configuration a minimum of 3 days prior to the start of the event for National Tour Elite Series events and 1
day prior to the start of the event for A-Tier events. For World Championship events, courses must be set no less than 4 days in advance of the start of the
event. For other PDGA Majors such as US Masters or USWDGC, the courses must be set no less than 3 days in advance of the start of the event. In the case of
temporary holes and/or courses where targets are unavailable, the temporary configuration must be clearly marked for both the Tee and Target locations

Given Friday is the first day of competition, I think it is always safe to assume that the course would be closed on Tues. Most National Tour (DGPT) events are set up the weekend before, it just makes sense to try to keep people off the course from that point on.

It does suck though.
