Forsythe Park

Played July 15th, 2020 before its opening and was mostly finished. Not gonna leave a review as the course info tab requested until playing the finished course, but enjoyed the course and its potential!

Drove to Forsythe Park from inner city Chicago (Avondale) on a route with no tolls where you pass by the Horseshoe Casino and are about a 15 min detour from the famous Calumet Fisheries for smoked/fried fish and tried the smoked pepper garlic salmon after and was great! Just two notable stops on the way there or back.

Because of one way streets the parking lot can be confusing to reach so set the gps for 615 119th st, Whiting, IN for easy nav to the entrance. The ideal parking lot is past all the baseball fields right after you pass the dog park on the left. The first tee is right there by the corner of the gazebo. The restrooms are sadly closed at the gazebo so you'll have to help trees grow.

For reference: I'm a 34yo beginner having played maybe 10 times and loving it but needing to improve my driving/accuracy/putting...... everything. But I love disc golf and will get better.

The signs on the posts can be confusing listing two different A & B chains but when I played July 15, 2020 only the A chains (closer) were installed so far. Also the only UDisc listing for a scorecard for this course was wildly off on hole distances and pars so just go by the tee signs. The park is very pretty and flat alongside a lake and very windy so prepare to drive into headwinds. Several beginning holes require low and long drives to avoid limbs which I hit at every chance. Some of the new concrete tees still needed mulched to level off their sharp edges which I'm sure will be finished before its opening. Will be interesting if they also trim some of the trees for better channels. On hole 16 the A listed chain wasn't there and I later on hole 17 found a 16 marked basket further up. It's basically up along the bend of the road to the right when teeing off on 16. Not sure if they'll have added all the A & B baskets by the time they open.

As a beginner I enjoyed the course think it's got great potential once finished. I found it intermediately challenging and will definitely be back to work on my driving and accuracy. The beginning will test your distance into headwinds with the mid holes being more of a challenge navigating around trees. The back side plays more open into longer and wider fairways. Excited to play and review when fully finished!
