How can I throw 500ft?

I would like to say that throwing 500 on some courses would be quite impressive while throwing 500 feet on others would be unfathomable.

For a vast majority of beginners, recreational players, or Intermediate players? Yes...yes they (often times) are. For the same reason as a lot of guys on the ball-golf course going through buckets of balls on the driving range, but not being able to sink the 6-7 footer on the green. None of their buddies ooh and aah over that 6-7 foot putt. But darned if they don't all ooh and aah watching that little white ball fly high and long off the tee. ;)

And where the hell is springfield mn? ...sounds familiar

About half-way between Minneapolis, MN and Sioux Falls, SD. A tiny town on the prairie of about 2,200...but we've got a lot of fun courses (132 holes) to play within 30-45 minutes, so from a disc golf standpoint, it's a great place to live.

If folks want to feed their ego or get a little "viagra" for their game though (long drives, lol), best to stick to Nehl's Park in New Ulm, Plum Creek in Walnut Grove, or maybe Redwood Falls. We're ~270-275 per-hole, tight fairways, woods and water here in Springfield (expanding from 14 to 18 holes this Spring/Summer)...so when I need to let 'er fly, Plum Creek ("long" Holes 5, 7, 8 and 9) is the best place to do it around here.

Cuz you gotta score somewhere. Early in my game, my drives were crap and so were my putts so I became a killer on the upshots. Now that I've picked up some distance, everything out here is becoming a drive and putt type shot so I'm losing my ability on the upshots. Putting, you do gain a good deal of feel with experience and with any luck a bit of a sense on when it's a stupid shot to go for.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post! I am still working on that video. However, I really appreciate all of the serious advice that has been given. Most notably, the advice that I think seems to pertain to me would be:

1. releasing the disc later, so I can follow through completely upon release...similar to grip locking...except with accuracy.

2. Throwing higher..if necessary...thus allowing the disc to turn right, then left.

3. Not throwing the disc too hard, but releasing with a smooth arm motion and a timed wrist snap at the end.

Thanks! :)

Some pointers..This is what I see people do when they throw a surten distance:

100-200ft;(stand still) Some beginners use to hold the arm around the disc and use a short pull and don´t pull the disc straight. When doing so the disc will not get any speed and will drop faster to the ground because it has no balance and no air to get under the disc at slow speeds.(with only spin it won´t fly far)

200-300ft;(slow walk) On their way to progress they use a straighter pull so the disc will get a higher speed and more glide.

300-400ft;(quite fast x-step) They start working on the grip so the disc will get more spin so the disc will hold itself longer up in the air and fly faster.

400-500ft;(fast and controled x-step) They have figured the most things out and they are pulling the disc on a straighter line before release and they have gotten an almost perfect grip and they have a good weight transfer.

600-800+ft(quite fast runup and a very fast but very well controled 360 turnaround or a explosive x-step )They have figured out everything they need to know and gotten very good on throwing explosive throws and using all parts of the body to generate speed and power.
