Movement in top 10

It's mostly this thread where it matters, anyway. At 20 reviews, the top and bottom 5 or 10% only affect ratings by very small fractions. Certainly not enough to entice or deter someone from visiting a course. So it's the minor issue of who makes the "Top 10" list, and the very minor issue of which order they're in. Hardly worth changing the formula for 5000 courses just for that dozen or so.

I have to disagree. Making the top ten puts you on the front page, which is the best advertising you could possibly have for attracting traffic. I know for a fact that it has made a significant difference for the only top ten course where I know the owners.

Intentional or not, the qualifying top ten courses are unmistakably elevated above the rest on dgcr.
When you go to more top rated courses, the top ten which you just saw on the front page is there again, in larger font than 11-25, just to re-inforce the idea that there is a distinct difference between a top ten course and 11-25. Why even have the top ten listed again when it was on the the home page?

Perhaps so. Perhaps Major to those course owners---if they're making money, and take in significantly more---though I know of two private course owners who expressed mixed feelings about hitting the Top 10. Minor for everyone else, though.

If Hawk Hollow were a money making endeavor I would be actively encouraging players to review it as well as guilting them into reviewing it highly. There was a definite increase in traffic when it was (briefly) in the top 10.

I love this guy's candor. On the other hand, in my experience making the top 11-25 didn't make any difference in traffic.

It would seem that a disc golfer traveling to or through an area, would find the top courses, whether they're in the Top 10 or not. The question is, how many people travel to a place only because it has a Top 10 course? Selah Ranch comes to mind; I've talked of heading there, myself. Though I wonder what the raw numbers are--people who went there, who would not if it was only a 4.5-rated course.

Highbridge.

Highbridge.

Well....are Highbridge and Selah destinations because they are highly rated, or because they provide lodging and multiple courses? When traveling, I seek out highly rated 4+ courses to play, top ten is not really a must. A chance to stay at a place to play multilple highly ranked course put the venue on top of my list.

Would you hear of them, or travel in their direction, if they weren't Top 10?

The top 10 probably matters to these 2 more than others. Well, Bucksnort, but play there is limited, anyway.

I wonder what the total numbers are. How many people actually travel to Highbridge from far away?

Most of the other courses, if you were in those areas you'd find and play, even if they dropped to #14.

It's because of the designers silly. ;)

If it wasn't for the top notch courses, nobody would ever go to Highbridge. I don't know if you've been there, but it's not exactly a metropolis.

From the reviews I've read (although it's been a while), the "accommodations" at Highbridge are nothing to write home about, so it must be the DG.

...I see whut you did there.

On the other hand, Selah seems to offer some really nice places to stay, as well as a spectacular DG experience.
One day...

Accommodations don't have to be right at the course to make the trip worthwhile. Pro Worlds at Highbridge had great lodging experiences half hour away that are still there with the Indian Casino and the Ski Lodge where we had an Olympic-type village along with typical motels on the shore of Lake Superior with a nearby micro-brewery.

I understand. If it were 4.4 people who live within 200 miles would hear about it and visit. Top 10 draws people from across the country. But how many each year?

The information in "more top rated courses" is redundant, which is a shame given all the info at this site's disposal. Selah Ranch is the top course, the top private course, the top pay to play, the top destination...why not provide some useful info... other than the top 9 hole courses, (which is interesting) ?

Regional lists are a no brainer.
