[Westside] The WestSide 'King'

My King is a 174, and when I called it flimsy it wasn't a knock on the plastic. Just the top of the flight plate seems to have more give than my L64s, you can easily push the thing right in. But, it was nice, fast and stable. I was crushing RHFH with it.

Not a monk, not in any way (especially since the stories in Kalevala are based on old Finnish pagan beliefs). Grim Reaper usually has a robe, is he a monk too? =)

The boatman character is very similar to Charon, the ferryman of Hades.
Ok, scary monk, whatever.
He ain't death because he dont have no skillinten arms.
I'm still paintin the robe brown.

I'd LOVE a Tournament Northman - was wondering when they'd start running em in GL.

I would also buy a GL Northman or two if and when they are available.
My only concern is, the Tourney plastic is supposed to be understable compared to VIP, and my Northman is uber flippy now.

Hmm, the rope belt spells monk to me, not grim reaper. Also the robe itself...grim reaper is more of a cape. And the normal arms, as the other poster said. All that's missing is the face of 'Friar Tuck' filled in, and I can see why the artist chose not to go there.

Yeah, man
How come everyone in Finland doesn't conform to OUR concept of a Grim Reaper?!

Are we really gonna debate belts that clash with "spring reaper wear" on here?

C' mon now

What?..??...??? Grim reaper is a universal mythical figure, do some history. Geographics and demographics have nothing to do with it. It's the same universal theme as Lucifer or Santa Claus. There will be variations of the names though. That looks like a monk who's moonlighting at dock lantern duty. Boatman...how does that tie in with the grim reaper?

No one said the boatman WAS the grim reaper...just a figure from an epic Finnish poem whose closest equivalent is the ferryman on the river styx. Or maybe a little like the grim reaper (in the sense that they all escort the dead to their "afterlife")

I suggest you do some history on "universal mythical figures" like lucifer and santa etc... and you'll find their physical appearance changes quite alot over time and geographic distance.

Case in point: your "universal santa" was modified to look as he does in the 1920s

Anyhow
I like the Westside King a ton.

Apparently, it's selling really well, the local distributor went through their whole stock in less than 2 weeks.

Okay on the Reaper and Santa, etc, appearance is not as universal as I may have suggested. I was referring more to the common theme within different cultures. Still, that's no Reaper. Actually the "ferryman" sounds about right.

Still waiting on my King, want to see how it stacks up to the Havoc.

From a slightly more reliable source:
Tuonela is the realm of the dead or the Underworld in Finnish mythology, similar to Hades in Greek mythology.
In the 16th song of Kalevala, Väinämöinen, a shamanistic hero, travels to Tuonela to seek the knowledge of the dead. On the journey he meets the ferryman who takes him over the river of Tuonela to the isle of the dead.

Heres an English translation of Kalevala from Westside's site.
All current Westside discs are named after figures in the epic.

In 99% of the pictures I've seen of the Grim Reaper the robe has sleeves. Capes don't have sleeves.

Actually the "ferryman" sounds about right.
... The discs name is "The Boatman"... I don't recall anyone calling him the reaper...

threw my king ONE time today prior to my mini and it was EASY DISTANCE like others have said. gonna give it some more throws this weekend hopefully in open field to see what it can really do. it definitely surprises me how easy it is to boom considering its not a super wide rim driver.
