Most game cameras illuminate at night time, making them visible to a vandal unfortunately.

That is why they make blackout cameras now. Nothing visible when the IR flash goes off.

Keep in mind, hanging isn't the only option for a unique hole:

Cutting off the pole destroys a $35 pole, which you can just make with the right thickness pipe. It doesnt destroy the basket. Also, inverting the pole and re-drilling holes would give you something to bolt the chains to.... Either way, as a fellow designer and maintainer, do not float a basket. They will swing, they will hang, and you will get someone hurt. reaching off a 10' cliff to retreive a disc, even if you arent hanging on it is dangerous also. Put it on the hill, re-inforce to prevent erosion and move on.
