Critters on the course you ran into...

Seen about ten of these guys pulling out of the lot of Energy Rotary in Gillette WY today. First time seeing these in the wild.

Pronghorn trivia: they can run ridiculously fast, about 55 mph which is way faster than any current predators. Apparently their speed evolved when the animals that were trying to eat them were faster than any still around today.

I should have a few coming. This was a couple weeks ago. The deer come right up to the house and eat a bunch of stuff I don't want them to. In any case, this was interesting. Look to the right of the obvious one. Spooky eyes! These were on Knobley Mt. DGC.

A small box turtle while working on new holes a couple days ago... probably ~100' from where I saw the first one. I put it right back, out of harms way. It was really active.

Which hole did you find this sucker on?

On the dam, not far past the tee for hole 2 (pond hole). Red Dog spotted the snake and gave it a sniff, which is probably why the the reptile was so riled up (no snakes or dogs were harmed, etc.). :)

Thanks I was trying to place a grassy area on the course and none of the holes popped into my head. : )

Deer may be some of the most common animals to catch glimpse of during a round, but every time I see one, it still feels like a treat.

Not knocking squirrels, rabbits, racoons, birds, or other commonly encountered wildlife... it's all pretty cool.

But something about seeing deer in the wild really makes my day.

I think part of it is that they're so skittish, it seems like a honor to see them.

Though more in some places than others. Around suburbs they're not as quick to flee; here you can flush them from 500' away.

When my mother lived with us ten or fifteen years ago I did some feeding with corn near the house as she enjoyed seeing them so much. One of the does that I saw regularly was more tame than others, to the point that she would hear me running the chainsaw on the course and come running. Or smell my cigar and follow the smoke trail to just check in. Many of the deer in this pic are her descendants and while not as "social" as she was they have minimal fear of me. They are much the same with my wife. Strangers.... not so much. And it's still really cool to me as well. [emoji41][emoji41][emoji41][emoji106]
