Yesterday, my brother in law, my buddy from work and I were playing a round at East Metro in Manor, TX. having a decent round when we got to hole 17, up near the basket looking for my disc that came up a tad short and faded over into the brush area my buddy walked up on a Rattlesnake, now this isn't the first time we have seen one of these out here, nor was it the largest one we have seen, but the snake was minding his own business and was startled by my buddy and coiled up and started the rattles going. I was about 15 ft away, and the sound of those rattles was extremely loud. My buddy backed away and myself and brother inlaw walked over and we watched as this snake sat coiled ready to strike for a good 10 minutes or so. A park ranger happened to walk up about that time and we watched as this snake calmed down and uncoiled then slithered away. Needless to say it really messed with my head the rest of the day. The area that the snake was in, I was freely roaming just a week earlier looking for an errant shot. This makes me want to rethink my shots for the future, as anyone that has played that course can contest, hole 17 is surrounded by cactus and a rattlers paradise.

Has this or similar happened to anyone else?

I almost hit a squirrel last week, and the squirrel I almost hit let out this panicked SCREAM that was a distress call to all of the other squirrels nearby...so about 5' to the left of where I am another squirrel heads the call...and just LOSES HIS MIND. He runs right at me, right past me, and up a tree to the right of me about 15'.

The funny thing is this freaking out squirrel is SUPER FAT. This is a rec course at a YMCA next to some picnic tables and I'm sure this guy is a total food hound. His belly was flopping on the ground! He was waddling! He looked like every Disney short fat bald man who's in a hurry...in real life...in the form of a squirrel.

I saw him later on the second lap...he's my favorite squirrel ever.

Yeah, that would be funny, we see squirrels and rabbits run across the fairways frequently, and the snakes have been seen many times before, but this was the first time one coiled up and started the rattles going, the sound of those rattles is nothing like what you here on TV, is was a really eary sound.

These are all over my home course during the summer. They are scary as hell looking when you first see them, but once you get used to them, they don't bother you. I am more afraid of snakes. I took this picture last year:

Not disc golf related, but squirrel related. My wife worked at a pill packing facility when we were in NY. Anything that was non-narcotic could be thrown out in the dumpster for stuff that had fallen on the floor or broken improperly.

A big part of their business was senior homes so 2 of their most common pills were zoloft and viagra.

Everytime a trash run was made there was a gang of squirrels who were totally addicted to the stuff that would swarm the dumpster and tear into the pill fragments.

Happy, horny squirrels....maybe the YMCA fatty should get ahold of some.

Oh and a couple weeks ago I saw a black goose mount a white goose at Lenora Park. My daughter asked why they were fighting...I told her it was a turf war.

The group behind us had an encounter with a copperhead on hole 18 at Hilton in Hickory at doubles this past Sunday. I don't think it was quite the protracted encounter, though. The snake went on his merry way after a minute or two. The funny thing is that I probably stirred him up, because it sounded like he was about where my drive had landed just a few minutes before.

haha classic response.

I was playing Burke lake (VA) a few years ago. The second hole I think it was where you have to go around the tree right in front of the tee off. My friend really hucked his shot and broke a gooses neck. (I don't think he throws that disc anymore) he says it's bad Karma which I would have to agree.

I've got some pics of a skunk that was meandering across the fairway at Redhawk in Tulsa when I made a trip down there to play...unfortunately not in digital form so I can't post them here :(

I was the one walking up on the rattler that Moon was talking about. The bad part was I didn't even see him, just heard the noise and jumped back. I was less than 5 feet away when he saw me, and rattled at me. Park ranger said alot of times they will not even warn you.

We see two water moccasins in and near this creek almost everytime we play. Well everytime someone throws their disc in the area.
I also saw a deer about 6ft from in the brush and his backside was all f__ked up! It was all tormn up and bloody. He ran about 30 ft away and stopped, still in the brush and then I took another look at him and figured I best leave him to hopefully heal. Weve also came up on a few dead raccoons on the course.
I also stepped on a rat snake on 1 fairway!
This course is a blast!

A couple of weeks ago in a tournament at Snow Farm (TX) I was going to throw my second shot on #17 (lake) and as I looked down my foot happened to fall inches from a the head of a 3ft. copperhead. I may be exaggerating on the size and normally dont have a problem with snakes, but when a poisonous one is inches away from your bare ankle and he sees you first... needless to say, i yelped and jumped about 5ft vertically.
but with the surge of adrenaline, i hit the pin on my second shot (would have been about an 80 ft birdie)

during the summer at lake lewisville park here in tx, the park gets "infested" with lizards... horny toads and whatnot. they don't get in the way and they're actually kinda cool... you're pretty much guaranteed to see one on every fairway.

This past Saturday we almost got eaten alive. We made our random bimonthley trip to Harry Meyers park in Rockwall, Tx. Middle of the day, middle of the course, and middle of hole 9. The hole is fairly dense with low and high shrubbage. Tough to see through, tougher to find your frisbee. We manage to get to the eleveated green and my buddy spots it. A FREAKIN MOUNTAIN LION! Damm dudes this thing was real. Solid tan coat, long tail, cat face, quick and low to the ground, big like a labrador. My buddy looks back and it runs across the fairway from one thicket to another. Of course i putt in and take off to get another look. I only got to see it for about 20 foot as it disappeared. No luck. We play on.

Does a drugged up teenager who fell down having a seizure near me count as a critter? What about the paramedics I called for him? Or the cops that the paramedic called to restrain him?

Seen a guy kill a squirrel w/ a disc one day. just ran right into the path of it and snapped it's neck.
There is also a mother goose on the Mathew's Park course that will fly at you.
Seen deer, fox, rabbits, racoons, possums, etc. on many of the courses I've played in GA.
