[MVP] MVP Axis

I sold some MVP discs to my buddies around town, and it's funny seeing one of my friends who has a pretty good arm(but no form) absolutely bury his Axis into the ground from OAT. I take out my Axis, give it a nice hyzer and watch as it flattens out and just gliiiiiides to the basket.

yea the domey ones have been leaning more towards OS but I wouldn't call them OS, just more stable with a tad bit more fade.

my red/orange is slightly more stable than my flat green and I prefer it over the flat greens. honestly i hope they keep going with the color consistency vibe. if they can keep the greens flat, the pinks domey, the red/oranges slightly domey i think we'd all be pretty happy... except for all the quality control freaks out there who want every color to be the same.

so i've only thrown blues - would you guys say greens are straighter?

i don't know about blues, are they flat? greens are the least stable first runs i've thrown. i'm not sure about the newer runs or what will happen with the domeyness of the colors.

If this has been addressed, mea culpa (I'm on a very shoddy Internet connection and doing proper searches isn't possible)....

Is the Axis going to be released in the same plastic as the original ions? The ions seem to feel much better (!) grip-wise in my hand than the axis. The axis feels about the same as clear champ plastic which I don't care for, vs that softer ion plastic feels nice.

Any one else feel the same and/or have any info on this?

---Found a post saying the only difference is the clear color. That may be true in terms of how they are manufactured, but the feel of those plastics is just night and day. And I liked how those old ions looked. Oh well, SMD2 it is.

Yeah, it's technically the same plastic just with different colorants. I think the new transparent proton plastic has more grip than the proton plastic on the opaque Ions; I don't think I'm alone on that either.

I've noticed a few differences between my soft white opaques and my soft clears and glows.

The new clear runs feel a touch taller in the hand, are a little stiffer in the flight plate and feel slightly slicker on the surface. My whites feel flatter / lower profile, a bit floppier and have a tackier feel.

The difference isn't huge but it's like comparing fairly gummy champ plastic to the grippier runs of star plastic. Both plastic feel grippy to me, but they feel grippy in their own way if that makes sense.

Now that this has been out for about a month, has anyone (probably either discspeed or mike if anyone) beaten in their axes to the point of them being fairly understable?

Based on what I've seen with Vectors/Ions I think it will take at least 6 months or so before a more neutral Axis will want to develop a good turn. The ones I've been throwing haven't changed in stability at all from what I've seen since summer. The Vector I've been throwing a lot has started to break in just a little, but MVP's in general seem to take a while to break in. Also it seems like they want to start losing low speed fade before high speed stability, so for all I know it could take a very long time for the Axis to get to a high speed flippy state like say, an Element or Fuse.

They seem to glide out on an anny better than the Buzz, so I think once they get to that point they'll fly quite nice.

I've had a couple ions long enough to where they have some good turn to them. I guess I'll just have to keep beating the crap out of my axis and hopefully it gets some good turn to it also, or else i'll have to settle with a fuse.

I've thrown one of my original Axis quite a bit so far...It's a fairly flat green one, so it was pretty straight to begin with. At this point it's got noticeably more high speed turn than it did when new, however when started with hyzer and given enough height it wants to come back to hyzer after the turn.

Picked up one of these last week and finally got to field test it yesterday and today. First impression, wow, what a nice disc! The rim was harder than I expected and the plastic is really stiff, but right out of the box it feels smooth and comfortable in the hand - no flashing removal needed on any edge. Very nice. This is exactly how discs should be sold, especially premium plastics.

It's a bit more stable than I expected, but it'll hold lines very well and has decent glide. I don't know if it's going to fill the slot I was hoping for, but it's a keeper as a mid for sure. I can see it taking a very long time to break in a bit, but it looks like it'll be a pleasure to throw it until that happens. Thank you MVP...good stuff!

more stable than you expected? which color did you get?

no clue what color he got, but i must admit every color was more stable than i initially anticipated. after a round or so i got that out of my head but the first few throws i was like WTF..

Got a 177 orange, very flat. Going by Altitude's estimation of 5, 5, -1, 1 .... I think I expected something similar to maybe a Skeeter? It's still a great disc, definitely something I'm going to keep and use - got a very good feel for it this weekend. I think I'd call it a 5, 4, 0, 2. I'm no expert, though, just comparing it to known discs with similar ratings that I own.

I also had the benefit (sorta) of testing it in a full range of winds from 5-20mph this weekend. Maybe 80 or 90 throws altogether.

I was out at BRP today and a bunch of guys saw me throwing mine and wanted to try it out. They were impressed with it, perhaps they'll get one or two of their own!

I think the Axis gets more stable for people who don't get a lot of snap, and therefor spin on them. that's the reason I stopped putting with Ions and I'm still on the fence about keeping the Axis.
