Arroyo Disc Golf Basket

I needed one of these today. I was driving on #15 at Rabbit Flats which sits at the bottom of a hill about 250' away. I pulled out a Yeti Pro Aviar and sent it towards the basket. It went dead straight and then slowly faded left until it hit the middle of the heart of the chains, began to drop and then sploosh... the chains shot it out. I was so disappointed. I don't think the Vortex was designed to hold onto those kind of shots, but I have a gut feeling if I would have had one there tonight that throw would have been an ace! I am looking forward to trying these out soon. Great job Logan, Kevin and Kyle!!! See you soon at a tournament.

I'm torn on this. I like the idea of innovations to our sport, and sports in general. Think of where the NBA would be I'd they still used a peach basket and a ladder. But at the same time, spit outs are and always have been a part of our sport. I'd kinda miss seeing them go. Sure it might happen to you. But it might happen to someone on your card in a tourney as well. It happens. What's next? Make the baskets a foot wider? Perhaps a net behind the basket in case you blow past it? I've read arguments saying that a spit out punishes a putt with good form. So what? It's not the only case of good shots thwarted by variables in our sport. Picture this: you step up to the pad with a Valk in hand and you have a sweet tailwind behind you. Then, right as you release you perfect form throw, the wind stops blowing and your Valk turns and ends up 75 feet offline. Variables my friends. We need them just as much as other sports do. I don't want to see robotic putts from inside 20 feet.

Are People really crying about spit-out's? It's part of the game that makes it fun, If everything stayed in it would be boring.....

If it didn't stay in, obviously it wasn't a perfect putt or the disc golf god's were mad at you!
Next thing i know, i will see a thread about modern NBA Rims Being changed because they were 2 many bricks!

Just play the game and enjoy the one's that do stay in, They might aswell start selling disc with
Fish hooks on them to guarantee spit out's wont happen lol cmon really..

I'm going to patent a ball golf, rotateable backboard for the hole. I mean, if you have a perfect line to the cup and it rolls over, that's bs. In every other sport if you have a perfect shot it counts.

So let's say you are on the last hole of tournament and fighting for a win. The guy you are battling it out with birdies. Your 25' birdie putt hits the middle of the chains with moderate speed, but bounces off the pole and on to the ground. You just lost. Are you going to say "oh, that's just part of the fun"?

I just went back and read a few posts from those who think that a putt spitting out is the fault of the putter putting it too hard. "not a perfect putt"...well, how about this for a counter-point.

At the 2010 Memorial, I played my first round of the AM Advanced Trny with a guy who threw 3 putts through the chains. 3 in one round of 18, and each putt was dead on in the chains. Bad putts? No way! The wind was howling across the Fountain Hills Course that day and the middle 12 holes were a pain to putt because of the swirling winds. This guy was able to putt into (and across) the wind and hit dead center chains, but was punished for his accuracy and putting skills because the conditions on the course demanded a more powerful putt from 20'-30'. I truly believe that. Amazing shots that ended with disappointment. It shouldn't be that way.

I played Fountain Hills on Wednesday. I had an ugly spit myself, on hole 8. Those baskets suck.

If I may go against the grain somewhat (as usual),
All this talk of spit-outs being "part of the game" smacks of old-boy elitism and stodgy entropy.
If the shoe fits, wear it.
To some people, the best reason to stop innovation is "It's always been that way!" That's not a reason, that's nostalgia.
So someone comes up with a LEGAL basket, that may actually stop spit-outs and players are complaining that it may be too good???? That's just too rich.
What a joke. Tell me when I get to hear the punch-line.
It's called INNOVATION people!!!!!
Stop living in the past!!!!
If it works, then use it. If it makes the baskets more reliable, then it makes the game more fair and less random. The more fair the game is, the more-skilled players will shine.
I understand that there is a lot of randomness in this game. We do play outdoors, after all. We can't eliminate all luck, good or bad. But anytime someone comes out with something to take out a little of that randomness, I'm all for it.
Besides, these new baskets will not be eliminating the old ones for a LONG time.
No worries for all you nostalgia buffs, your future and past are safe.

Innovation, can we get some huge wind blocks on every hole so the wind won't play with your disc? Seems stupid to have something as random as wind define your round.

Careful, JT is going to think this is directed at him, unless you explicitly say that it isn't.

FTFY

Why don't you only play courses that use Mach I baskets? All these newer baskets are just changing the game too much. And while you are at it, just throw lids and pie tins. Not being able to throw far is just part of the game.

Oh, yeah. Disc golf started out without tee pads. We should get rid of those, too. Driving off an uneven surface is just part of the game.

I believe that the only reason spitouts are "part of the game" is because we have had no choice but to deal with them. Now with the vortex, stupid spitouts wont be as much of hastle. I also dont see how it will cater to one style of putting over another. I myself am very excited to see something like this come about.

Are u serious,Yes I am going to say that and not make excuses like some people.

Like i said before, You see it in basketball plenty of times, Example
" Ray Allen" got the ball and shot the so called perfect shot it went in stayed in then rolled out somehow for the buzzer beater.

Should he complain that the rim is unfair and that they should fix the rim?
NO:doh: yes Its called part of the game!

Emotional Argument!

Angry Response!

Outrage ensues!

I'll reiterate it again just in case DaKine or one of the creators get this far into the thread: Great job trying to create a different type of basket than just the same old one we're seeing. You're thinking outside of the box, and that is helpful. I'll love your basket as long as it doesn't bend/break too easily, and you have assured me it won't. Therefore: wunderbar!

Watch 6:45 in the video.

And also tell me that you really think that the two spit putts in the Crabtree video really were bad enough they should have spit.

Perfect shots don't make it in 100% of the time in Disc Golf.. Ill have to agree.

I watched the video, and the vid froze about a half second after his disc hit the chains. My first thought was, "but it didn't spit out?" hah.

Here is yet another example, put a video just to show you what i'm talking about.
