PDGA WORLD'S in Charlotte 2012

^^^I've purchased a free style disc with flying saucer logo from there and gave away as prize at tourney....

*I think we bought their last two though; and don't know if they carry them anymore*

unless it was very recently my guess is they got more, that frisbie has been a part of thier corporate for sale swag since the first one opened in the dallas area back in the 90's, all of the different ones i have been in have had them in stock...

Oh yeah, Flying Saucer is a good option, especially if you don't mind the waitstaff wearing short skirts.

Speaking of which, the Tilted Kilt has a reasonable selection of beer (nothing like the true beer joints, but not bad) and the best reuben burger in the world, along with a nice selection of kilted staff.

And Jeff, if you're staying uptown, please go to Total Wine (or Brawley's Beverage) (google locations for both) and get yourself some good beer for the nights you can't make it out of uptown.

Good recomendations but don't forget about Common Market and they have beer tastings a couple nights a week.

I was a big fan of Mac's, that's where we ate when we passed through last year.

Does anyone know how the field events will be scheduled/organized on Sunday? Will they all be going on all day? Are there specific times for specific divisions? Will there be titles/awards by division or just one award per event? I see the putting finals will be at 8pm, but what about distance? Are there any other questions I should be asking?

does anyone here know of places to stay? my plans for staying with my friend fell through and i already bought my plane ticket and paid for worlds but now i might not be able to go unless i find a place to crash. ill take anything i can get. i just cant afford to pay for a hotel for two weeks.

Traditionally speaking...need to stress that - TRADITIONALLY speaking...

You show up at any point to the event during the day. Someone is running the event and they have a list. You check in and do the event. It doesn't matter your division or anything.

Payout is divisional.

I am not sure about distance finals. I've seen finals and non-finals for distance. It's clear putting has a finals.

Field events are fun. Just show up, check in and enjoy them. Don't stress about it!

Thanks Robert. Those were my assumptions also, it would just be nice to see it in writing. Not too much stress, just that we only have 2 days (Sun, Mon) to preview 5 courses each, so we want to make the most out of that time.

Looking forward to it!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the craft beer recommendations, guys. My limo driver for the week, Bill Newman, is also a huge beer snob and so he will appreciate the research I've done in advance.

I'm not a big fan of chains, unless it's the right circumstances...to wit, I'm definitely a big proponent of Flying Saucer - I think we ate there 4 or 5 times during the Kansas City Pro/Am Worlds in 2009. I walked in and saw all the frisbees and disc golf discs on the walls and ceiling and knew we were in the right place. :D

The Tilted Kilt is another chain with average food and very average micro beer selections - we have one locally. There are the, ahem, side benefits of the place...however, I should really stay away to keep me out of trouble - I've already fallen "in love" with several young lassies and despite leaving 50% tips and my phone number, my phone hasn't rang yet. ;)

It sounds like Duckworth's, WorldOfBeer, Mac's Speedshop, and the breweries are going to be my best dinner & drink options, and Total Wine or Common Market to purchase supplies for the hotel room. I like the fact that the latter is open until midnight during the week...just in case there are several late nights at scoring central. :\

Are Marshall Beer Snobs allowed to crash the beer snob tour? :D

That sounds like an awesome plan.

I know I mentioned OMB, but based on what you've written, you really don't want to go there. I *love* the place, but they only have 2 or 3 beers at any given time, and none are big (except around winter-time). Food-wise, they only have brats and a couple other things.

NoDa and Birdsong, on the other hand, seem to have several of their beers (5-8ish) at any given time, and some of them are bigger. Neither place has food, but you have plenty of other food options.

Oh, by the way, Midwood Smokehouse isn't too far from the NoDa area, and they have the best BBQ in Charlotte (fractionally better than Mac's), along with a reasonable selection of beer (though nothing like WoB or Duckworth's). Might be a good dinner option after hitting the breweries in NoDa. But you've really got lots of food options, so it's all good.

p.s. WoB doesn't have food, but they often have food trucks outside, and also let you order from nearby restaurants. Also at 25-30 locations, they might be a bit chainy, but their bottled selection is ridiculous.

Jeff ... this is Craig ... send me a pm with a way to get in touch with you and Bill ... it would be nice to catch up one or two nights during the week ... with some good beer of course ...

BTW - is the afro in effect?

To the lung -
Trying to think of good beer spots near each of the local courses.
If you're at Sugaw, Eastway, or Kilborn (maybe even Idlewild), I'd recommend NoDa and Plaza Midwood neighborhoods. I wouldn't necessarily just try random local bars near those courses. Sugaw is kinda geto, the rough can look like a crime scene.
RL Smith is very close to the USNWC (white water center). You have to pay $5 to park there but not to get in to the restaurant. Pretty decent beer selection and a very cool place to sit back and relax after that hillsy round.
Hornets - if you take Beatties Ford Rd north a few miles, you'll come to Lancaster's Barbecue. The beer there is cold, that's about it. Beatties Ford south takes you back to exit 16 - don't know any good spots in that area
Nevin - If you travel south you may just go on to NoDa/PM. If you travel north the quickest bar might be Hickory Tavern off of Exit 18, then turn right. If you turn left off of 18 there's a mall with some chain bars/restaurants.
Bradford - Turn left out of the park, then right at that next light. Pass a traffic circle or two and it takes you to downtown Davidson. Ask anyone for directions to the Brickhouse, and the Healthy Home Economist also has a great beer selection. Maybe 10-15 minutes from Bradford and it kicks you out on I-77 at exit 30. Same for Bailey, but you turn out onto that main road (hwy 115) and take it right (north) for about 5 miles (brickhouse is one street parallel to your left, just past Griffith St in Davidson).
Also from Bradford and Bailey, get on Hwy 73 (Sam Furr - turn left out of the park) and drive west until you cross over I-77, then two lights past 77 you turn right into Birkdale. There's a Taco Mac across the hwy, and an Irish Pub called the Galway Hooker nearby. This is all off of exit 25. Very popular local drinking area.
You can also get to Birkdale from Hornets by taking Beatties Ford all the way up to Hwy 73, then turning right (east) onto Hwy 73.
Saucer is the only place I know near Reedy Creek.
I don't know the Winget/Elon/Renny area very well.
Anyone who's seen me play can agree that I drink better than I throw. Enjoy Charlotte.
