[Innova] Champion Mamba review

I actually like the Mamba. It's a good fun disc. Originally bought it as a roller but now I use it for strong tailwinds.

Having just discovered the Roadrunner, the Mamba sounds like the next logical step up down the road, yes?

I'd say yes. The Mamba is 2 speeds faster (an 11 to the RR's 9) and more understable. My Mamba actually flips harder than my Roadrunner (formerly my go to distance driver).

Just in the field today, it was so easy to get distance. I didn't really put any full rips on it though. I did find it to be a bit nose angle sensitive, but even when I got the nose up and it stalled out it still went far.

Excited to try and shape some lines with it on the course!

This. Disc. Is. Awesome.

Being a guy who always carries a completely trashed DX fairway driver (mostly teebirds) for getting out of trouble, and finesse shots that need some speed/glide, the Mamba is so fun. For champ, it's crazy glidey, and the one I have is made of a SOLID blend of Champ that's near indestructible. I really like how I get to throw the same shot as I do with my beater DX'ers, only I get the additional 11-speed and just as much glide. This is going to be my new mold that make my friends pissed.

i have been throwing some hyzer flip bombs with the mamba. i would compare t to an avenger ss that is a little faster and glides better.

Agreed. But, for me, it seems as though my 175 Ch.Mamba will continue to turn a lot after it flips up. Way more than my 174 Z AvengerSS.

I would highly recommend this disc for beginners. It's very understable and has lots of glide.

People with slower arm speed would reap the benefits most from this disc.

I agree w/ this, and would add that more experienced players could see benefits w/ a high RHBH anny (I throw mainly RHBH).
I also use mine as a flick disc w/ good results considering that I don't have a good flick.

Nice review Kevin!. I can't wait to see it in action, maybe give it a toss or two myself.
I lost my river and need something wicked understable until I can beat my back up river in.

(if yall are confused. Fred is really Kevin :))

Finally got my hands on one of these and man is it impressive. Effortless D when you consider it's an Innova Champion disc; the glide is just crazy. If you give it low power and some hyzer it just fiips up and flies crazy straight. Blows the RR out of the park if you ask me.

Great BH roller disc as well, which is why I wanted it. Everybody bitches about all the new driver molds but for me this is a huge success.

It will be interesting to compare the Champ Mamba to the new Discmania S-TD2, which has the Mamba rim. Based solely on some early reviews they seem similar but the S-TD2 is available in the Star like plastic, which I feel will offer even more distance potential.

I haven't thrown one yet that doesn't turn and travel pretty far right, or turn and burn at least half the time. Even the 167 I have, which is the heaviest one I've found, is a flip monster. Yeah, I can get 300 out of it, but an r-pro boss yields even a little more distance with less odds of turn and burn.

you have to just really back off the power and loft it on a hyzer flip. i was hitting 360 with ease but if i tried to throw it far it would definitely turn over fast.

Today my Mamba went through the chains on a hole that I thought was pretty much un-aceable. I've not thrown another disc that likes to glide understable like the Mamba. When I first saw it's flight rating of -5 I wondered how that would really work...Now I know and pretty much agree with the rating. The Mamba just holds in the air on a turn and keeps going forward where most discs would be dropping/diving with their nose angle. It's place in my bag is becoming pretty solidified as it just seems to work every time I pull it out (which isn't all that often). The one thing that makes me nervous is that my Mamba seems a little more stable than most and I hope I can find a similar one at some point (domey orange max weight).
