well heres another typical was it or was it not an ace thread.....sorry guys but this nearly happened today and the question was brought up.....here it goes:

your playing in a doubles round and theres an odd number of participants so someone has to be the "cali/california/callie", however you wanna call it...turns out the cali is on your card and as the rules go, the cali gets 1 extra throw per hole, drive, approach, putt depending on what they decide....well on the first hole its a fairly straight shot with a few trees spread throughout the fairway....the cali being the first on the card throws his drive...WHAM!! hits a tree.....he decides to take his sencond throw now, steps up, puts it right past the basket....just inches off.....

now here lies the question.....if he hits the ace on the second shot does he still win the ace pot money? does it still count as a 1? would you sign the disc?

while walking to the hole all the people on the card talked about how they would feel about it and it was about 50/50 that he should get the ace pot and his disc signed if he woulda hit it......so what are the rules on this one?

Me personally i feel like it should be marked down as a 1....but as far as the ace pot goes, i dont think he should get it...yes its like his partner hit it, if he had one, but he did get two tries at the shot....and as far as signing the disc, i prolly would, but i would put 2nd shot in big letters :) lol

Pay the man. Since he is his own partner and that's how the rules go... it's an ace.

He gets the 1 on the score card, there's no question about that. Following that line, an "ace", technically, is a 1 on the scorecard.

So, in the future, I'd either pay the ace or put some kind of stipulation on what a cali player is entitled to in that situation.

Definitely an ace. If yall are playing Cali rules then he gets that second shot if he chooses. One of the fun things about being by yourself when playing doubles is you get to take those ace runs.

well the td agreed that if he woulda hit it then he wouldve gotten paid...some people just disagreed with the verdict...me personally, i wouldnt care if the cali got the $ or not, i say mark it as a 1, let the td decide whether he gets the cash or not, sign his disc, and move on.....but like i said i would still sign the disc 2nd shot..

would yall still sign the disc?

i agree....and the rules, if this situation should happen, should be stated before the round....that way there are no questions, and no disgruntled players

If I was the Cali player, I'd count the 1, I'd accept the money but I wouldn't put it on my list of aces.

well why not...lol....just a sec ago you said it was an ace, using the defintion of it.....yet you would list it as an ace in your book? even if it was a 400' hole...and your hardest ace you had ever hit?:)

I certainly wouldn't count a hot doubles round in my list of best rounds I've ever played. I may have had a hand in the score, but a lot also depended on another player. Same goes for the Cali ace. True, I hit the shot that counted as a 1, but I also had a second try at it. It's just where I personally draw the line.

understood......so would you still have people sign the disc? or if it was someone else on the card would you sign it?...

sorry, im just giving you a hard time.:D..i just wanna know how everyone else looks at it

In one of the local doubles around here, it's counted as an ace, but I think they only pay half the ace fund. To me, it's an ace. He played the round as two people and 'teed-off' with a different disc, right? I would sign the disc for sure if he asked and think he deserves the full payout. It's not his fault he's the odd man out.

the half ace-fund sounds more fair than anything to me...thats not a bad idea...although im sure if i was the guy that hit it i would want the whole thing...another example would be though, what if its a short, open, 150' hole that the guy parks and then decides to take his second shot and aces it....how fair would that be?

give him the ace, he got the chains, but the pot money, naa,

if you stood at the tee and emptyed your bag and got an ace, you still got the ace from the tee right? but the money is a little diffrent.

It counts as an ace on the card does it not? I personally think it is an ace but would probably give it an * in my book. I mean hay they do it in the baseball record books all the time now.

yeah but we see how f'd up their situation is....lol......they dont even know who can/can't be in the hall of fame anymore

Give him the ace and the cash. He hit the basket from the tee, and didn't have to empty his bag to do it (assuming he had more than 2 discs :D). Also, on his first shot, didn't he try to pick the disc he felt had the best chance? His second drive is already handicapped! Sure, he may have seen what the wind did the first time. Around here the wind shifts direction on a whim. The wind direction 30 seconds ago probably isn't the same as it is now.
