Wanted to start a thread of what people like to listen to while they play. It is a mental game and personally I feel the right music can keep your head in the right place, help shrug off a bad throw and keep focus...

I tend to go for My Morning Jacket. Z, or Circuital. Lively enough, without being too heavy... it just puts me in a good groove.

I feel exactly opposite. I find music to be distracting. It can help take your mind off bad throws, but it can make it harder to focus on the tough throws.

So I don't listen to music during disc golf, I prefer to enjoy the sounds of the course and keep my head totally focused on my game. Of course, it helps that I'm generally very cool-headed, so when things go bad, I don't have much trouble forgetting about it and moving on.

I do listen to music when I run. But that's to distract me from the boredom of running. During a race I won't listen to music though because I want to stay focused on competing and proper pacing.

And on a similar subject, there are two songs that always seem to be bad omens if I hear them before a round: The Collapse by Adelita's Way or Pressure by Rains.

I can agree with this. I'd say I play without music as often as I do, depending on mood. Sometimes a little music hits the spot, other times no thanks.

Depends on the day. Solo rounds, I prefer silence. With just my brother, I enjoy the talking. With a big group, playing doubles or minis, I have to listen to music. Generally Something like Hammerfall or something. That's my good mood music.

If I do, then I like to listen to jazz or the blues. I also like to listen to alternative.

What gets me is when somebody asks if they can throw with me and then they proceed to put earbuds in and ignore me for the entire round.

What's up with that?

I like your style. I don't listen to music when I play but if I did it would be heavy metal. The more traditional the better.

I'm in the camp of no music. The dg experience is more of a relaxing and connecting with nature kind of thing for me and music doesn't fit into that equation. Perhaps that is because music is everywhere I go (home, car, work, store, etc.), so the dg course is an escape from all things that are found 'everywhere' else in life.

So Sabbath? I dont mind music unless its pop, techno or country. This has nothing to do with distracting me, this music is so bad I'm just compelled to throw my disc into the nearest tree.

I usually don't listen to music unless one of my friends has a set of speakers. As long as we're not playing competitively, I don't care to have some tunes on the course. The first band that comes to mind for a good mix is the Allman Brothers!
