They fly very little (I hesitate to say nothing) like they were supposed to fly. A Proton Volt is more overstable than an FR Shock.

They could have flown like beat DX Archangels and that wouldn't have meant they flew poorly. Just not necessarily as advertised. It's more semantics than anything. My Amp is more stable than newer runs, and it's my go-to driver. It's aaaaalll good.

For the record, Butlertron's Shock isnt flippy. Ive seen him throw it. It still has that good beefy Shock fade but it also has some high speed turn. As near as I can tell, its not his form that is the problem. Its just a little beat. Its not a flippy amount of turn...just a gradual movement and the fade more than makes up the distance and finiahes left everytime.

Haha, it looks like I stirred up a lot of emotion over this issue. That wasn't necessarily my intention. I just felt obligated to share my experience with others before they buy a Neutron Shock.

Here's the deal. I did read up on this disc before I bought it because I live abroad. I can't just walk into a store, fondle the selection, and pick out what I want. Besides, who doesn't enjoy researching discs? Also, it's hard to miss this thread with the George Clooney sized cloud of "smug" around it .

This disc doesn't have anything signifying that it is a first run, which means I bought and someone else sold a disc under the assumption that it was a second run. Either way, I now have a disc that isn't what I wanted through no fault of my own. MVP deserves to have this thrown in their face. Just own it. You can make fun of me and make assumptions of my experience level all you want, but my discontent is still valid.

Is it the end of the world? No way. Does MVP make a good products? Of course, I am very happy with the Neutron Amp and Proton Anode that I have.

Kinda seems like not marking first runs as a such can do more harm than good, I get why mvp made the decision to do that but when first runs are undesirable I.E. shock the customer is lost in finding the right run.

mvp obviously feels bad about the shocks, which is why they dropped the resistors first. now you can have your cake and eat it too. slower speed, always flat as ****, and over stable.

Or when the company is consistent run to run, you don't need to worry about that.

Name me a company that meets that criteria and I'll give you a delicious internet cookie.

No company has yet, but the way mvp is going, I feel like it will be a realization very soon. We shall see with the 2nd run of resistors

I don't think even MVP will be able to do it 100% of the time, unless they raise costs. And MVP is already at the high end of disc golf prices. They are also growing in size, leading to more demand. it's the nature of the beast...up the cost to pay for the better QC or keep the discs affordable and run the risk of having a few slip out that fly a little wonky? Tough choice...and why I don't run a business.

The Shock is like an EX...That bit of high speed turn is hidden in the disc's brand new stability, but my most used Shock has more turn than my P Volt and also a bit more fade. This is probably why they made the Resistor--because the Shock is not a pure overstable disc.

I was going to post something similar to that but was tired of arguing semantics of my comments over flight of discs. My beat shock with some HSS turn is flying pretty far too' broke 430 with it and that's 50+ feet more than I could throw a freshie. I don't feel like volts change as much with use im still waiting for my first one I ever bought to get "flippy" don't think its going to ever happen.

thats what I wanted out of my volt but I lost my orc and replaced it with a quasar z-g and wow that thing is exactly was I was looking for. I tried some flex shots with the volt but if I need a shot like that my valk or quasar fit the bill out to 320-370 ft.

As far as the QC issue goes, I don't think it's reasonable to expect anywhere near 100% perfection. The reason why is that small changes can affect the flight of the disc dramatically and no disc golf company is going to pay the money to have NASA or airplane level consistency for their flying disc. Even though it's much simpler to make a disc golf disc, there are still too many variables to control that you'd have to make the discs prohibitively expensive and there's most definitely a diminishing rate of return for that. The disc market can tolerate these inconsistencies because there's no need for the kind of consistency that protects people's lives.

Manufacturing companies aren't consistent. Buy two pairs of jeans from the same manufacturer, and you might get entirely different material from one color to the next, and one color will wear down quicker. I've recently had this experience with two pairs of Levi's, and one pair ripped within a few months. It's lame, but when you're looking at a manufacturing product that is non-essential.

For MVP discs, I can say that when I went to get a freshy to pair with my beautifully beaten in Ion, I had to dig around a bit because a few of the discs were ridiculously domey and I will not abide that. So I had to settle for a color I didn't really want, but that's not that big of a deal. And the disc flies just like I wanted it to. But replacing any disc in my bag, I face the same problem; that's just the way it is.

I think it's best we learn to live with inconsistency in the equipment: it's part of the game.

ions never stay domey fwiw :) your post is spot on though and striving for perfection is a lost cause in DG really but I would say the MVP guys do a pretty good job comparatively. A distance driver will be a true test of their consistency IMO though.

THANK YOU DISCSPEED!!!!

I should have said it from the beggining...that what Butlertrons Shock reminds me of now. A really long Eagle-X. in4d chiming in made Butlertron question whether he had a new run Shock and I can assure you he does not. His home course in Korea, Beacon Hill, has tons of trees so that may be a factor as well.

MVP discs are durable in that they take a bit to hit their sweet spot, but when they do they hold it forever. See my proton volt's example. I hope it never gets flippy because right now that thing is money!

Wow, I am surprised to see the first run shock stuff again. I am actually really happy that I have both a first and second run shock. They compliment each other very well. Granted I got the first run knowing exactly what it was going to do and that is why I wanted it. If I would have gotten it when they first came out I may have been peaved. The thing everyone seems to forget is that MVP was willing to replace them with second runs. That is all.

Did anyone ever post a profile pic of a 1st run shock? I think a friend of mine might have one. his looks a bit different than mine.
