[Innova] Whats the best Innova midrange for a beginner?

Do yourself a favor and buy these three discs...DX 169 Roc, DX 172 Stingray and a DX 170 Cobra and go to a field and just throw them and see how they fly for you. Do not go into the course and start throwing them immediately because you will hit trees and change the flight characteristics without knowing what these discs can do in mint condition. Learn what these discs do when releasing them on certain angles..hyzer, flat, anhyzer, etc.. Once you know what they will do when released a certain way, then go to the course and try to throw with what you have learned with each disc. All three of these discs have huge distance potential if thrown correctly.

 That's the ticket right there.

DX Rocs. They're cheap, they don't lose their usefulness as they wear, and most people that start with them never outgrow them. Just by a couple to start, and add a new one every time one gets hammered.

That said, don't limit yourself to one company or another. Half the fun of disc golf is exploring the tons and tons of options out there.

People saying Stingray, Coyote, and Mako are IMO the most in tune with beginners.

I (respectfully) disagree now and forever that the Roc is a good midrange for beginners. It's too overstable for people who don't have a developed "hit" point.

The cobra is easy for me. I've been throwing that since I started playing.

I love my rocs, but I wouldn't recommend them as beginner discs. They start out pretty overstable, and take a lot of power to get a straight flight when new. They don't break in all that quickly, so they're not going to be a workable line shaper for most new players for a while.

I really like the shark as a beginner mid, it's versatile and can be shaped on all kinds of different lines, it's a slower mid so it doesn't take a ton of snap to get a nice straight flight, and it's not terrible in moderate amounts of wind. Makos and coyotes are fine choices too, the stingray is ok but it's faster and can be a bit squirrelly as it breaks in.

Could it be that people recommend the Roc to beginners because it will force them to learn good form rather them cover up mistakes?

This certainly is the Golden Age of mid-ranges. There have been some great suggestions. I want to concur that the Element by Gateway is a great US/low power disc that people don't utilize enough. There Sure Grip (DX) plastic is awesome. The Mystic is another US mid by Gateway but it's rim is very shallow.

If Paul McBeth gave me advice I'd certainly take it. Roc 3 is a great disc. I learned to throw a midrange with a 168 FLX Buzzz. It's very forgiving when you hit a tree and doesn't fade as hard at the end of flight. Very controllable.

Stingray is a good option. It'll be useful as a main disc right now, and later on, it will become your roller disc.

I started with a Shark, and while that was good for a while, I stopped using it pretty soon after I stopped being a 'beginner.'

I'll put my vote out for a spider or a coyote. Spider was the first disc that I used. The second was the coyote. I still have a coyote in my bag. Oh Another good beginner disc I would suggest is the Roc+.

That is if you limit yourself to innova. I would suggest other companies, but thats not what the OP asked for.

I'd go Roc if it has to be Innova. I could never do a damn thing with the Shark except drain long putts with it. Pretty sure I hit my first birdie putt from about 50' with a Shark. Can't drive it for the life of me though. I use a Buzzz for those duties, and highly recommend it. Or a Comet. Discraft has better mids in my semi-humble opinion, although I do like the Roc and Roc3.

Atomic ?
