WELL, after showing my wife (53) side arm she has caught the disc golf bug big time. This is the first athletic endeavor she has ever displayed in the 25 years I have known her (besides dancing).

She is in good shape but zero muscles and has now increased her distance to 60 feet on good throws and she LOVES it.

Yesterday while I was drinking with friends, she, on her own, went to Glide in Madison and after researching purchased a Cobra 148g. Then went to Dicks Sporting goods to look for another disc but didn't find it (didn't like the color I guess).

NOW - she has a Aviar P&G, a Shark (lighter then mine) Comet and a Cobra.

She went up and down our fairway last night practicing after watching Sarah Hokom youtube videos.

This is seriously awesome!

Strangest thing this year I have seen GROUPS of girls out at the courses and played through a pair of 2 older women this morning.. Never before has this happened nor do I even remember seeing so many players of the opposite sex in one year.

Nice work!

Lucky.

i'm just happy when my future Mrs. asks how I shot when i get home, and doesn't gripe about me being late for dinner

Hansen park has had some hiding as well as a couple other local short 9'ers down south TC.

Anyone else witnesses more girls playing this year?

I've tried everything and can't get my wife to play. You are one lucky dog.

I think it's the FIRST thing she has ever had a chance at succeeding. I've tried all sorts of sports and she is so freaking uncoordinated. Her ball golf swing was a one and done. Saw it once and vowed to never see it again.

As for girls - I saw a group of 4 playing 2 weeks ago. Pretty amateurish (100 foot random direction throws) but they were having fun.

My problem now is this morning she said - I wish I had a driver . . .I know I can't throw it but . . . .

She was looking at bags yesterday for her 4 discs. She REALLY wants a buzzz but can't find one light enough and in the right color :)

I notice when girls try it out they are actually way more controlled than guys and often straight not getting off all crazy like some of us because they don't even have the option. Fun to watch actually same with my buddies dad who is a bit older and way out of shape but plays it straight and they all seem to find DG to be much more self rewarding being able to make improvements, at first especially.

I told my wife we need to start playing. If she's in the right mood, she'll putt a few times in the yard with me, but that's about it.

Hopefully, she'll come around, and catch the bug like your wife did.

I'm still gauging my girl's interest in the game. She tried it with me and liked it, but she seems to get annoyed when I won't shut up about discs. Probably because I've spent about as much on them as I have on her... She still wants to play again though, and does ask if I played (duh) and how it went (awful) every time I come home.

Get her a leopard or underworld. She'll feel happy she has a driver and it's slow and understable enough not to teach bad habits I think. Buzzz could be good but if she already has a shark in a light weight might be overlapping a lot.

My leopard is 169 and she is looking for lighter (so am I). but when I said I had one she really wants to try it today. I also have a Buzzz and Shark but Buzzz is on loan (what was I thinking!!!)

my wife plays, and does pretty well for a girl, her rating bounces between 725 and 775
but she thinks she doesnt do that well, because she is always comparing herself to the 925 and better players

we both started just over a year ago, and its been fun, having something to do together, however I do play a lot more than her

I have a hard time helping her, it always seems to turn into a bad time, just let her play :wall:

the best thing I have found for most women players, is to keep disc selection low (4-8 discs)
pretty colors and sparkly discs are preferred by most
they dont care if its a better disc or what they do, if its nice looking she is choosing that one

so get her a sparkle Diamond and Pearl they are the best beginner/women discs out there

she needs to have own new discs, not your extras or hand me downs ;)

here is a pic of my wifes' Diamond light that I got for her, not long after she started ;)

I wish I could be that lucky. In a perfect world, my wife would sell her two horses, take up disc golf and convert our pasture into a 5 hole practice course.

my wife recently caught the bug as well. after about a year of her being frustrated trying to throw a backhand, a lightbulb went off in my head - she played ball her whole life. So I said hey, try a thumber. Boom, hooked.

Can I send my wife over to your house for a "Pox party"? Maybe she'll re-catch the bug.

She went with me to go play a few times but lost interest due to it being so GD hot here in TX...

One thing ball golfers have learned and its sort of common knowledge. NEVER give your wife instructions unless she asks for it. Or if you do small one liners but very very few.
Let them fail and figure things out.
