Why all the Innova Hate?

I find myself reading a lot of spite/hate for Innova on DGCR. I'd just like to know why so many people view Innova so poorly? Didn't ever company copy Innova when they made breakthroughs in new plastic (like Blizzard)? Didn't ever company copy Dave Dunipace when me came out with the modern disc design? I always here complaints of how Innova discs are inconsistent & change from one run to another. Are the inconsistencies really that bad compared to other companies? I'm not trying to say Innova is the best company or anything like that, I just want to know why all the hate?

It's "cool" to hate the big companies.
More or less, this.
I imagine people also want to hold them to a higher standard, being the biggest for longest, and having put out so many fantastic plastics and molds over the years. When you see surprise plus-molds, misconfigured molds, worse-than-last-year plastic etc, it's disconcerting. McDonald's still has great fries and some tasty chicken sandwiches though.

I just realized that I only carry two Innova discs in my bag atm.
Hate? No, that's a strong word.
Other companies have simply stolen almost all of the slots in my bag currently...

It's the only thing they can blame for having a bad game...or no game at all. :)

That goes for any haters of any disc company.

yep. I have heard, "It's the archer, not the arrow" so many times.

People say Innova is inconsistant. "I throw my Beast 10 times half the time it shanks right, half the time it fades hard" These are the people that are throwing into a head wind and then back with a tail wind and wonder why they bought such an inconsistent disc.

The groove however is a POS :)

Innova has made some of the greatest discs and some garbage, but right now other companies are just flashier and popular.

Hey, I have a Prodigy disc. I just can't throw it.

This has a lot to do with it. And Innova discs being the most prevalent in big box stores means a lot of casual players throw only Innova. So it's easy to look down on them as the chuckers' company.

Despite the general dislike for the brand, there's still plenty of love for some of their molds, most notably the Roc, Teebird, and Leopard (among others).

Actually 3. So much for those counting lessons...:wall:

I'll be honest, I love the Swedish plastic..and Discraft Midranges. That being said, I will always have a Teebird and a Leopard in my bag, so I don't necessarily hate Innova. But I do have a major problem with the inconsistencies. Most recently: the Tern. I have a CFR Tern, early run, and it is awesome. I can bomb that disc. Then the stock-stamps came out and they are all completely different. The first batch was a true -4, 2 for the HSS/LSS as designed. The new Champ stock stamps say -2, 2 ... which is VERY different. Now the Star terns are out, with a printed -4, 2. I have not thrown one to see what it throws like, but this is pretty inconsistent. AND it is inconsistent enough to where different plastics are having different flight numbers stamped on them. In my opinion, the current champion stock stamps are NOT Terns. But Innova will continue to call them Terns because it's the newest disc and they want to sell the heck out of it.

Those of us that have played disc golf for 8+ years have noticed severe inconsistencies between Innova's "runs" of the same mold. Now we can clearly see Innova acknowledging this via flight numbers printed on stock stamps, but without making any sort of mention elsewhere. In essence, they know there's a problem, but they don't want to fix it, because they want to sell the disc the way it is. It would not surprise me in the slightest for the next batch of champ Terns to come out like the originals or heck, even farther away from the stability of the original.

Bottom line: no other Teebird I've ever had flies like my SE Teebirds. If I lose my Champ Leopard, I'm going to have to find another light sparkle champ CFR Leopard, because a stock champ Leopard will fly differently. I almost expect it from Innova. If I love my tourney stamp Z-Buzzz, I can go find another Z-Buzzz and it will fly the same. I've noticed very little inconsistencies from other manufacturers, though they are surely there.

And I'll leave you with one word that will sum up many people's feelings on Innova's inconsistency: Destrulcan.

haha, that is a good point.

Also look at all the aviar and roc molds.
It turns confuses newer players.

Nobbie McHyzerson: "I would like an aviar"
Salesman: "Jk-pro, Kc-Pro, Yeti, R-pro, Champion, Sanmarino Grid Stamp, Rancho grid stamp (regular dx), McBeth?"
Nobbie McHyzerson: "ohhh, um maybe a Roc"
San Marino Roc, Ontario Roc, Champion Roc, Flat Top Roc, Classic Roc, Roc3, dx roc...."
Nobbie McHyzerson: "I just want a nice easy to throw disc"
Salesman: Get a groove!

Rocs & Aviars really aren't that confusing. People are just to lazy to do a little research theses days :wall:. But the Destrulcan is definitely a bad mark on Innovas record, especially for people like me who love Destroyers.

I think that anyone who writes off entire manufacturers is making a mistake. so many companies are trying to put out good discs and plastics and almost all of them have something good to offer

I think the thing that drives people to be mad at innova is when they pump out new ho-hum molds nobody is interested in so quickly and say why you should try it anyway, but then never pay enough homage to the old tried-and-true popular molds of yesteryear by refining plastic blends and improving quality control on those specific models. They missed the mark with the +plus molds and dx plastic changes a few years ago, and that was probably the biggest era of 'innova sucks' mentallity. However I think they're turning it around since Roc3 and family of 3 releases hit shelves and given the player base desirable improvements.

No it's not laziness, when they are pdga approved for one standard and there are 50 other standards set by Innova. It's not to say other brands don't do that as well.
But to get back on subject, yes, bigger companies are under bigger scrutiny, for the right and wrong reasons.

Not to mention that the "Jolly Launcher" plastic that they have begun using is really quite awesome.

I think its the internet and thats what happens on the internet....also I bet 8 out of 10 of those "haters" have at least one innova disc in their bag even though they "hate" them......

People are silly, they tend to focus on the negative and that includes hating on things. Just look at politics, you can see all the ways humans focus on negative **** and act cunty. Its a societal wide bad habit imo.

I have to admit this WAS one of my many bad habits as well.
