Apparently someone stole basket #5 from Camp Yavapines in Prescott, Az. Who does such a thing? It was an Innova Discatcher Pro(?) -the one with the yellow band. I'd assume if anyone knew anything they'd come forward, but then I assume nobody would be so big of a douche that they'd steal from a church and their community(disc golf or other).

Same thing happened at Auburn Regional Park in Auburn, CA. The basket from hole #5 or #6 was missing when I played there a few months ago. I believe it was replaced, but why take it in the first place. Not sure how anyone gets out of a park carrying a large metal basket.

Never underestimate the effort a crackhead of methhead will undertake to turn a useful object into scrap cash for their vice of necessity

This is one of those dumb decisions I could actually imagine myself making after a night of drinking back in my college days.

My disgruntled neighbor took hole 17's basket last season. She felt guilty and returned it after a couple weeks.

People who steal baskets off courses suck!

This is way more surprising than somebody just stealing a basket. I'd love to hear that story, but it's probably not relevant.

Probably one of those Prescott College Hippies! Go check out back at Coyote Joes!

I remember... You were pissed!!! i always wondered how it got returned and if you found out who did it.

Happened at alimagnet a couple years ago, a disgruntled neighbor or two tossed several of the baskets in the lake and woods

I'm not all that familiar with the idea of scrapping metal (though I'm aware there is money in it), but I presume there are only specific places you can go to do this, right? Would it not be beneficial to go to these places if a basket is stolen and ask for a heads up if a basket were to come in for scrapping? Or to give them the heads up to be on the look out so they aren't paying someone for stolen goods.

I always assume that when a basket goes missing, someone is putting it in their backyard somewhere and then it is soon forgotten because they lose interest in playing.

Damn shame...hopefully it gets returned. Fortunately, we haven't experienced theft around here, but vandalism is a problem for benches, baskets, tables, etc. Just senseless, really...

Alas, Joe's is now Brick & Bones. The 'hippies' hang out at the Raven.

Whahuh??? no more CoJoe's? I used to work there during my time as PC hippy! The raven? Is that the new version of the Bird Cage? Drunk Ted Nugent at the Bird Cage was always enough to scare me away! I hope that is still there! Really wish i was in AZ right now instead of frozen wasteland Northeast!!! I need to get back to the biscuit sometime soon! Good luck finding the basket!

Knew a guy with a lot of drug problems who used to regularly break into containers and load up his truck with metal (he worked at my parents gas station when I was growing up). He was showing me receipts of 300-600.00 every other day. Sure enough 4-5 months later I saw his face in the newspaper, they apparently had been looking for him for some time.

Appears to be a pretty penny in scrap metal, although a basket wouldn't bring very much as far as I can tell, the guy I speak about would load his ford ranger to the point the bed was nearly on the ground.

edit: for ranger not f150, although irrelevant detail~

People steal them and scrap them. Probably for drug money.
Every time we get one of these stories, someone makes this claim. Very doubtful unless miles of chain link fence are also disappearing. A basket is worth about $20 max at a scrapyard. They are worth way more as baskets.
