I have always played just because I love being outdoors, and its a sport that i could get nearly all my friends to play. Its not like soccer or basketball where you have to work your ass off to be good, so its nice to have a little change in pace for me as far as competition goes.

I recently ended my soccer career (competitively) after 18 years of playing and dg has given me an outlet. Hell I spent 10+ hours a week playing soccer, might as well keep doing something I like to fill that void.

There's very few activities that hold my interest so intently that any stress I might be having cannot enter my thoughts. When I'm on the course I'm happy, I wouldn't rather be anywhere else. Disc golf is an escape, even after the worst day of work if I can find just a little time to throw some plastic, I'm happy.

And ya, beating Hed is always enjoyable...

Soccer was my drug of choice before disc golf. I'm injured and out of shape and currently can't play. Disc golf is more complex than people think. It's an addiction, I never thought would reach this level.

i play to take your money. i play to take your money. i play to take your money. i play to take your money.

Guys have been getting together in nature to throw stuff at other stuff since the beginning of time. I think it's hard wired in us. Of course, there was a time when lives depended on the proficiency of said guys. But, I bet they still enjoyed getting out of the cave with their pals just like we do.

There are many reasons, but the one that comes to mind as of late is it gives me a chance to be competitive at something. Even if it's just for bag tags on Sundays, I love the casual competition. Also, drinking beer while walking burns more calories than sitting and drinking beer.

Mine are probably like most others:
Exercise
Getting outdoors
Hanging with friends
Ability to be competitive
Love of the game
A chance to challenge my mind and body

I play for keeps.
But seriously, why does anyone play anything? It's a simple diversion from the rigors of life. It provides escape from the ugliness happening elsewhere in the world. It is a sanctuary for all those lucky enough to discover the game. It's fun.

1) The most fun wins.
2) I love the great outdoors.
3) When I want to, I can participate competitively in a league or tourney.
4) The most fun wins.

Yea, it's on my list twice b/c that is the most important part of disc golf. :D

I'm married to BudB...We've lived in the Tahoe area for over 15 years. We love to engage in outdoor activities, (snowboarding, softball, hiking, motorcycles, etc). We love being outdoors and being active.

We got into a little bit of a lull over the last couple of years. Just kind of bored with the activities we had been interested in...

There's a great brew-house in Truckee, and we got to know a bunch of the employees there. They all love disc golf. They invited us out last August, we were hooked.

We love to hang out with friends, experience new places in our area, check out the great views and learn a new skill. We're always trying something new, and disc golf is great!

We've met some really great people at (almost) all of the courses we've played. Everyone is really positive and encouraging. I haven't really seen any sport where people are so nice. I like meeting new people on the courses. I love the social aspect of discing, whether I go with people or meet them there.

And it's way fun...

I can not believe that it took over 50 posts for someone to mention the #1 reason for playing.

THE GIRLS
also
THE PRESTIGE
C'mon guys you missed the two most important.

Exercise, its outdoors, courses are free, theres 9 courses within a half hour of me, hang out with my brother and friends, many different ways to play, and its fun.

my main reason is, it's fun
2. i can compete in an environment where most people there are happy to see anyone succeed

The correct answer is... ordering new discs! A close second is finding a great new course (preferably not too far away). Tell me I'm wrong about either one :D
