Courses you don't play because...

What courses in your area would you like to play more but don't because they're always too busy? Furthermore, what's the most important reason these courses are so popular? Is it because of (1)great location, (2)easy layout with lots of opportunities for ace runs and easy 2's, or (3)because the course is well marked for ease of play? Other reasons?

I play Oregon Park the most, but have driven to Wills or Sequoia to escape the crowds at times.

It's really the best course in the northe metro though, except for maybe East Roswell and they are so far apart they rarely compete for crowds.

Lately Sequoia is almost as bad though and as tight of a course at it is, it can accommodate far fewer people. It's not a bad course and the only one in the immediate area as well.

And though I only go to Milewaukee twice most years, I may not play Dretzka as much next time. It's nice but was totally full often and a whole lot of mob golf going on the last time I played there.

The long layout and great location/ signage make it very easy to play.

My local 9 hole pitch and putt is tteerriibbllee. It's sooo crowded at almost all times.

It's overran by chuckers and bros. these groups of 5 or more sometimes each have 1 or 2 drivers, probably a boss, and throw them straight into the air and out about 75' and then throw them again and again and again and again. 5x per person per hole, it's bad.

EVERYHOLE is birdie able to anyone who calls the game disc golf and not frolf.

I'm all for "growing the sport" but this sucks and I wish these people didn't exist sometimes... They have no etiquette and don't care about playing well at all. I don't understand why they keep coming back, it can't be that fun to them?

It bums me the hell out! ****'em, I'll go to pier or hornings...

I avoid courses that are flooded with oblivious pedestrians (dog walkers specifically). The main one in my area that meets that criteria, that I would play more often but get frustrated by the waiting is Quilchena in Vancouver.

Nope. No courses that crowded around here. Benefits of not living in a disc golf hotbed. The most I can say is that there's an 18-hole course with an extra 9-hole loop that, on occasion, has enough non-disc-golfers to deter play, but it's optional at that course, anyway.

The courses I play, or the times I play them, are usually pretty empty.

I would say highland park, the local pitch and putt. Bros and chuckers. Even when I lived a mile away I'd drive out to kaposia or the valley just to have a better crowd most of the time.

Also, acorn I've given up on. It's just always too crowded due to location I think.

Now that I think about it, the twin cities courses all seem crowded to me haha. I love Lakewood in wbl but it's usually packed as well!

Around Louisville, Iroquois DGC gets pretty busy on the weekends. When the weather is good you can expect lots of mobgolf from casual players (and sometimes from serious players ). There's often families there with kids that only throw 50' or so and don't know to allow faster players to play through. It's frustrating but the course is fun so I often end up there anyway.

Furthermore, what's the most important reason these courses are so popular? Is it because of:
  1. great location
It's a centralized urban course, so location plays a part for certain.
  2. easy layout with lots of opportunities for ace runs and easy 2's
Primarily this, it's a par 55 that most tourney players expect to shoot below par.
  3. because the course is well marked for ease of play?
Not particularly, it's easy to navigate I suppose but that's not the standout feature.
  4. Other reasons?
The other courses nearby are much tougher, I suspect this is relates to the question above about easy layout. Iroquois is mostly open and even the woods holes don't result in many lost discs, that's a big factor I'm sure. If I were more a more casual player, Vettiner DGC and Severin Lang DGC would be really frustrating. I shoot around 5 over par at Iroquois and usually 10-15 over at the other local courses.

I actually wish this was an issue near me. Disc golf is so new in RI that the only two courses in the state are completely empty half the time. At least when people are there its usually someone I know and can play a round with, it would just be nice if there was a bigger local disc golfing community.

Johnson street is my point of ambivalence. It is the only course in High Point but it has three sets of tees and is a pretty fun course. It's also a dedicated DG park. But after lunch it is an absolute mad house. When I do play there I try to go early in the morning.

Thanks for the insight, guys. I suspect the cleaner, shorter courses will always be the busiest provided they're located in a dg region. The course closest to me,http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2441 is super busy in the afternoons and weekends in season. I usually avoid it at these times. The crowds are partly due to ease of play as it's pretty wide open but to a larger extent, location. It's right off the highway and it's the only course in the greater Portland area.

Crowded courses are seldom an issue with me. Pretty good amount of courses available around here compared to the population playing them. Working weekends also helps.

definitely can be hit or miss anywhere you go around here it seems like. We have had courses all to ourselves on very nice days and been backed up rush hour traffic other times on lame courses in fair conditions.

Blue Ribbon can be stupid busy at times the past few years.

Orchard or Greenway?

Yeah you got it! Thumbs down for Orchard, Greenway and Lunch Time.....

I also try to avoid Pier Park if I can. If you can get there and be done before noon you'll be alright, but just don't try to play on the weekend. All the problems are compounded and made worse when the elusive Oregon sun comes out!

Another course I love, but try to avoid playing is Trojan. That lake is very hungry!

Oh, the irony---I feel exactly the same about Pier, to the point that we only go there midday, midweek. Otherwise its Dabney, Timber[both getting crowded at times], Rooster Rock or Milo.

Here on the MS coast it never seems crowded yet on any course. But there's still the distraction of NFL and NCAA football, though the SEC fanatics haven't stopped sobbing yet, making it hard enough as it is for them to abuse the wife and kids, let alone play dg.

Vollrath Park. Oldest course in WI, so it's a shorty, and a lot of the holes are stacked on top of each other. If you don't get there by about 8am on a weekend, you're screwed. It's also FULL of kids, as it's in the middle of town, has a small shop (The Shack), and is mostly shorter holes. The kids are little fux, as well...they LOVE to skip around and not follow the course.

With that said, if you can find a time when it's not busy, it's a fun little course that is easily playable with three discs.

I learned to play at Morley Field in San Diego but I almost never play there anymore. In the middle of the day on a weekday there are 10 people waiting at the first tee and at least one group waiting at every tee, and it's significantly worse in the afternoon or on the weekends. Every once in a while when I have the patience for a 3-4 hour round I'll head down there and play, but most of the time it just isn't fun to spend that much time waiting in a non tourney round.

Are there no other courses around Morley? Why is it always so packed?
