Definitive shoe thread

I doubt the spikes would be very good on concrete pads.

i just ordered some salomon wings 2 gtx... cheapest i could find was 85 with a coupon code.. pretty happy seeing as how i tried them on in a local store selling for 160

Just to give yous guys an idea about how much I use these...I only get out to play one or two days a week in the winter months (Nov--April), but in the summer season (May--Oct) I play at least 3 days a week. Also, I do not wear my DG shoes unless I am on the course.

Here are my winter DG shoes...http://www.rei.com/product/706762
I am using them for winter season #2 right now. Yes, they were expensive at $275 when I made the purchase in Fall 2009 (current price is $215), but I have never had an issue with cold and/or wet feet. No signs of wear and tear besides marks from my gaiters. They took a while to break in, but that's ok b/c they should last a few more years.

These are my summer DG shoes...http://www.rei.com/product/757633
I have only used these for 1 summer season so far and they held up even though I am rough on my shoes. At $130, I am hoping to get at least 1 or 2 more years out of 'em. No problems with the gore-tex to date. These are extremely comfortable.

Of course the best part is REI's no-hassle return policy if anything fails. The seemingly high price tag is worth it from my point of view.

on concrete tees i typically just wear my favorite pair off dc's....on grass tees i really like my giro urge's they are very lightweight, breathable, and have some pretty large cleats to dig in with.

I picked up a pair of these because of the "cheap Merrell's at Cabella's" thread, and they're working out great. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have bought them initially for the $120 msrp, but I might replace them at that price if I ever wear them out. They're waterproof, warm, and have grippy soles. Great kicks.

An update at a year or so. The Merrell's lasted til about June, at which point I bought a pair of Keens at REI, which in turn lasted about 6 months before they were starting to come apart. I took the Keens back to REI and exchanged them for a pair of Garmonts. This was about two months ago, so the jury's still out. I like the fit of the Garmonts much better than the Keens, and I realize that's just a matter of how my foot is shaped and how the shoes are shaped.

Other observations: the Merrells were the most waterproof, followed closely by the Garmonts, with the Keens trailing by a decent margin. Both the Merrells and Garmonts have GoreTex, while the Keens feature their own version of a waterproof/breathable membrane, KeenDry. I didn't think it would make a huge difference, as I've had good success with other non-GoreTex membranes before, but the Keen stuff didn't seem to be up to snuff. The thing that I really liked about the Keens was the huge toe cap. There's no way I was gonna wear through that thing.

That sounds like what I did at REI minus the Keens. From my experience, Vasque holds up better than Garmont. The nikwax waterproof stuff helps a ton when the original goretex starts to age...and yes, REI has that too.

I'm at about a year with my Merrell Gore Tex MOABs which still work out great. The outsoles don't seem to have much wear on them, but I have worn through the removable insole on my left foot in one spot :\. It must just be something to do with the way I walk in them or then I have no clue. I'll probably replace the insoles some day, but I think Merrell now uses some different ones, though I'd figure they would fit all the same. The Gore Tex is great though, as I believe I said before here I stomped in a puddle by accident that I hadn't realized was so large and my feet were completely dry though the water was rather deep. I haven't tested them like that since, but I'm sure they'd still keep me dry. My only problem is I wish they were a little wider as they do scrunch my toes a little. If I had some vibram five fingers I'd probably replace the MOABs with some sort of warmer mids that I could wear in the winter. I do find the breathability of them to not be enough for the summer, but some nice adidas athletic socks I found over the summer really help out with that. An odd thing I found with the MOABs is that I have to make sure the bottom most lace needs to be semi loose otherwise some of the material folds oddly and pushes down on my foot a little which becomes bothersome after a while.

These shoes have really shown me that it's more than worth it to spend the extra cash on a better pair. My last pair before the moabs fell apart after a year and the outsole was so flat/worn, the pair before that I think survived 2 years, but I hadn't disc golfed back then. It's sort of like any product though, the more the spend the longer it should last and just the better the product you get. Seems obvious, but many people just go cheap and don't realize you spend more and could have some that last years vs 1 or 2 years.

Mine did the same thing. It pinches right where your big toe starts, right? Mine did it bad for the first couple of weeks, but I just started at the higher up loops until the shoes got looser. I also notice that on mine the inside fabric started coming loose at the top of the heel, and I actually had to rip some of it off because it was curling.

I'm still happy with them though. The vibram heels give me good traction even off hard ground, the Goretex saved me the other day when we played a round in the mist.. Everyone complained about wet feet, my feet were barely damp.

Yeah, right on the big toe. I'm still happy with them too, but it can still get rather annoying...to the point where I untie my shoe multiple times trying to fix it to feel better :\ you'd think after a year it would be better. It hasn't bothered me too often, though lately I haven't been out doing much thanks to this nice cold winter. Really sucks now with this cold Canadian air coming down here to freeze us up.

I've been using the NikWax stuff for years on my non-GoreTex Sportiva Makalus. The last two pairs of Vasques I had didn't seem to be too durable, but it's been a while since I've had any of their stuff.

I just picked up these New Balance 573s at Sports Authority for $59. Very, very , comfortable. Also, seem to have great traction. I am going to try them out tomorrow afternoon:

Damn, I posted my shoes and this thread died. Damn, do my feet stink?:\

By the way, my New Balance shoes kicked ass and took names. I love them! Best Disc Golf shoes I have bought yet. I am done with hiking boots. I am going to keep my waterproof ones for wet days, but thats it.

are they waterproof or resistant midnight?? they look hardcore as hell!!

Just wait till the soles wear out. Mine definitely didn't last though I'm not sure what model, but both my last 2 pairs of newbalance couldn't last me. Which makes me never want to touch another pair again...especially after some plastic heel piece wanted to kill me constantly poking in to my heel.

The bottoms of my new balance all terrains fell off after a month...were in the process of falling off in about a week.

Right now im sporting some keen red rock mids.....they feel like they are indestructible but ive only had them for 2 weeks. I'll report back after a couple months.
