Hardest region for disc golf

So I have not had the opportunity to play outside of new England but from videos I see most other parts of the U.S. are very open with their courses. Where do other players feel is the hardest region to play disc? I wish I could have some open holes on courses and not 100% tunnel shots that are ridiculously wooded.

I think the northeast followed by NC will be the common answers. Honorable mention to the upper midwest (WI/MN/MI).
I can say with certainty that IL, IA and TX are not the hardest.

While many courses in Colorado tend to somewhat open and shorter compared to other area of the country. I have seen some good players have trouble adapting to the elevation change and the way elevation affects your disc's flight.

How would you possibly measure such a thing? By the toughest courses in an area? Surely every region with tough courses, also has easier courses, so the region doesn't have to be hard to play. And, are tight wooded courses the only measure of "hardest"?

For the O.P., wooded courses aren't unique to New England.

I would say Diamond X in Montana, Bengal Ridge in Idaho and Moab in Utah are pretty rugged and could be considered in the same region and all are mostly open.

Well I mean for traveling players where do they feel it's easier to play? I am fortunate enough to have maple hill, deff the hardest more adrenaline filled nerve racking course I've ever played.

The way this post is worded doesn't make much sense to me. I have some ideas, but I have no idea how to answer the question. This does make me want to play new england courses more, if the area wasn't on the top of my wishlist already, it is a bit closer because of this question... I'll see where this thread goes, and think about it more, and maybe have more to contribute tomorrow.

Yeah I'm horrible at wording questions. What I'm trying to figure out without asking directly for myself is a course I could go on a road trip to with a few friends that we can all play where they don't get heated and not want to play anymore. My friends are alright but have no control over shots and don't wanna play more than a round. My gf just gives up after 3 holes cause all we have a super tight tunnel shots and she nails tree after tree after tree. I built her a bag with a diamond and a pearl buzz and pa4 and she's not about playing because it's so hard and narrow. Just wanna road trip to a place that's not so difficult for my buddys. I hope that answers what I really want to know.

Where are you, and how far do you want to "road trip"? You'll get better answers if your a little more area specific.

Then it's not so much a place that's not so difficult you need, but a place that also has good quality intermediate-level courses. If a place has a great brutally hard course, and a great moderately-hard course, the brutal course won't affect you.

The trick is finding the really good, not-too-hard course.

Well for the original post i always thought DE was tougher then MD and VA. But im pretty low in course count.

Just look on here for the closest place with the lowest scratch score if your looking for the easiest closest course.

This website has the tools you need to find courses for your group. Do a search for courses in the area you want to visit. Set the search filter to show only lightly wooded courses, for example. Look for the highest rated courses that match your filter. For the top candidates, read the course description and a few reviews and you'll have a good idea whether the course would be a good fit.

Thanks! I live in massachusetts

Make the trip up to Warwick NY to see what a difficult but awesome course that relatively open can be like. There may be "open hole" throws but in reality it's a devious course where you have to hit lines just as exact as any wooded course.

Wickham, in Hartford is very open and an excellent course but closed from nov-April.

Here in CT there's the newly opened Sherwood island exit 18 off the I95 which is open right on the beach, Long Island sound, has open 500-705ft holes that require placement. When the wind is up its a totally different animal

I know how you feel wanting to play some more open courses, but trust me if the wind is up it can be just as difficult, especially putting if you don't have experience playing open courses.

Thanks for understanding! My dad lives in CT maybe I'll take a trip down. Just to drive there with your damn staties. Can't go over 1mph without the helicopters giving you tickets

not true, at least past the Hartford line (closer to NYC)! I'm a ma$$hole (born in boston and grew up in RI), and the CT drivers drive freaking fast here the 95 and merrit (you know typical new england 55mph but really going 70-80 in the middle and left lanes).

All my friends seem to get tickets from Mass cops (mass turnpike, ect).

I've only gotten one ticket ever in 17years of driving and it was in one of those obvious speed trap zones in the florida keys. I just drive wicked fast if everyone else in the lane is going fast.

you should do the CT and Westchester County NY courses (FDR and Kisco) then end at the Skylands area NY, NJ -Mighty Gaw, then best of the best Warwick.

Although most of the courses around here are pretty heavily wooded, maple isn't the best example of that. There's at least 5 or 6 holes on every layout with room to really air out a monster tee shot.
There are a couple courses around with more space than maple tho.
Buffimville dam is pretty wide open for most of the course.
Borderland has enough space to miss trees on most holes, plus some really epic scenery(they just filmed the new ghostbusters inside the mansion there) to keep your gf entertained if she loses interest in throwing plastic.
Pretty much everything else I've played south and east of Woostah has more trees than Maple.

Take your crew to Scottsdale in Feb or Mar. I have a blast playing out there in The Memorial and you'd have a great time with memorable courses. You don't even have to play inthe tournament... just head out and enjoy the weather, scenery, and open but beautiful golf.

Any response in this thread is subjective. However, I can say with MORE certainty than you that you are wrong regarding IL. These are just a few off the top of my head:
Peoria area: Mcnaughton, Meggido, northwoods, Mcnauhton, and the brand new Wildlife?????
Chicago area-Camden 2, Highland, and the canyons!?
Individual areas- Foundation park in centralia, Sinnissippi

Not to mention the 20 or so courses in St. Louis which borders IL and all are within a 30 minute drive
