The Inevitable 2017 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

In my past experiences your OP is pretty credible. You're quick to write him off, but if there is a contract in place until a fixed date you're probably not going to see an update until after it expires. That's not to say things don't change on a whim but with a week and a half left in the year that's plenty of time for pieces to fall into place.

I've been told that most contracts go from Jan 1-Dec 31, so this quote is spot on. It's why this is the speculation thread: because nothing will be legit confirmed until after the end of the year.

Cale's engaged now ... wonder if that will cut into touring, or if she'll tag along and he'll tour more

Cue the Schusterick-esque "Is getting married affecting his play?" garbage in 3...2... :eyeroll:

I'm not gonna go back and look, but the guy was adamant. He heard it from the horses mouth or some such. He got challenged but there is zero supporting evidence. He claimed that's due to respect for companies and player. By now, if it was done, Innova would have it up. The OP is having a laugh IMO.

Just like MVP has fan boys that believe they are mystical, Prodigy has haters that believe they are evil. I'd guess the haters are Innova acolytes that feel betrayed both by the starting team and the flood of Innova pros they recruited early on.

Everyone has secret sauce that makes their burger better. Psssst, it's just mayo and ketchup mixed together. That is, I've not seen any real evidence of significant differences in the top discs between companies. I've seen a few disasters, aerobic, but success depends more on player skill than magic shape-plastic voodoo.

BTW- prefer the Buzz, no not because it magically beats the Roc, because I like the Discraft SS, standard, OS combo it comes in. I like that option of the full range all that feel the same in my hand.

Yet again, you talkin about stuff you don't know.

You're correct I don't know, but I never said I did. Simply that the model doesn't fit what typically happens. Here we are, a month later and one rumor from one source. Possibly correct, but still a small amount of info. Apparently, Jerm only told you, or the rest of the people he's talked to are being more closed mouth. Very much so. That in and of itself is interesting.

In twenty five years of reading blogs and well over ten years of disc golf threads, I've read about way more things that were going to happen that never did, than things that weren't going to happen that did. So excuse my scepticism, I did ask for confirmation, that is, I asked for confirmation of this event, and got none. Indeed several people have also asked. Clearly, it offends you that I've questioned your word so, I apologize for doubting. Only when someone asked where the rumor started did I write the truth of it. One person, claimed to have heard it direct, and is very adamant that it's correct. Pretty factual, even if I expressed some doubt.

I think everyone would agree, Jerm going from Prodigy to Innova is a big story and a very important event given the history of the two companies. Oh by the way, the notion that anyone is being protected is sort of out of the bag at this point.

C'mon with that... :\

I'll be the first to admit the way Prodigy launched in 2013 rubbed me the wrong way, at that point I was a newcomer to watching the pro game. I decided not to buy their products at that point because it came off as trying to buy my loyalty by stacking players I liked, instead of focusing on quality of product first. It had nothing to do with Innova or any other brand. It was like the "big 3" forming in Miami - just came across as corny to me.

Anyway, they wrecked the Discraft team more than anybody (unless you want to make the case for Gateway losing its only relevant pro at the time). I don't believe a Discraft sponsored pro has won a major or NT since Prodigy formed.

Simon always reps discmania pretty hard and in his dreampions qna there's no logos...... maybe got dropped by discmania after the injury? or is just at the end of his contract and a free agent??

Maybe it was laundry day? Or maybe he forced a move to the Innova side so he can throw his beloved rocs again. But I highly doubt he is leaving DM or DM would part ways with him. He is still the face of Discmania, even with being injured this year.

Not sure about any sponsor changes, but I was excited to hear on CCDG yesterday that Joe Rovere is planning on buying a van with the help of his sponor, GRIP EQ, and touring more in 2017. Joe seems like a "super nice guy." (to steal an Ianism) :D

I highly doubt he'll switch from Innova (why would he) but hopefully he can pick up some other secondary sponsors.

I'm talking in general. I don't know what his story is, but I do know I haven't seen one Latitude player make an announcement or one Prodigy player make an announcement.

This is the kind of hardcore rumormill stuff I came here for. Bring on the wild speculations!

Should come out sometime today. Was not 100 percent sure where to put this...

Er'body wants to "kick it" with Jerm. Funny, outgoing, great player, has developed his sportsmanship greatly over the last couple years. I'd kick it with 'em.

However, "kick it" still has a different meaning with Bradley. ;) (had to get the dig in)

I doubt Discmania would drop Simon... he has the potential to be one of the all-time greats. Maybe Simon goes to Innova, where can still throw Discmania discs but get a better deal, especially in America? But I'd be shocked if he were to switch to someone else...

Simon's clearly prepping for a move to Discraft so he can beat his mini distance record with one of those mini nukes.

This is actually pretty surprising in a good way. Joe is a great pro amd dominates here in CO. His full time job is a high school science teacher; he was teaching robotics last I heard.

I would think he would tour in the summers when school is out, which is awesome. He certainly has the potential to make an impact on a national level.

If I owned a disc company that wanted to sell worldwide, Simon would be my number one choice as to who I'd want on a long term contract to rep the brand. He's incredibly valuable to Discmania, and it's hard to see them letting him get away if they can possibly avoid it.
