The Inevitable 2022 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

I think the Kong was a disc designed for Paul, he signed before it was approved. I think the name change was purely based on the fact that there were flying discs made by the dog toy company KONG already and there was a problem with that.

The Kong mold is ancient. One of the first high speed driver attempts from Discraft. Never made production

It was renamed by Paul because Zeus is the "king of the sky", and Paul loves mythology. Maybe there's some behind the scenes reasons, but that's the public reason.

Watching OTB Tour Skins and Madison Walker was throwing a Latitude 64 Royal Trust. Came here to see if this thread had been created yet and ask if anyone knows about her move?

Edit: never mind looks like she went unsponsored for 2021.

She took a position with the DGPT as the Environmental and Special Initiatives Coordinator. She played 18 events this year, but some of those were more exhibition stuff like the putting contest and mixed doubles at Worlds.

Might not have been sure how much she'd actually be able to play? Or the new job was seen as taking away from her potential by her former sponsor?

Gotcha. I had seen, before, why Paul chose Zeus in particular. But was mostly going off of word-of-mouth on the rational for a change in the first place.

As far as I can see the timeline for the Kong/Zeus went something like:

November 19 2018 Paul McBeth signs with Discraft.
December 28 2018 Kong is approved by the PDGA.
March 2019 Kong is released as a "proto."
July 2019 Kong is renamed Zeus for "official" release.

Had no idea that the Kong mold was around 10+ years. Interesting that Paul took so long to choose the name for his high speed driver, considering he had the naming scheme for the "mythical" line in mind in time for the Luna to be approved at the same time as the Kong.

I think it's reasonable to expect that Infinite does not own any of the molds Innova produces for them, exactly like the Discmania relationship.

If Infinite doesn't own the molds I can't see Drew getting ownership either, it just doesn't make sense.

EV7 themselves might not care to release faster molds, but that's not to say their production facilities couldn't be used to make them for somebody else. Drew does throw some Legacy, so maybe they'll be involved in some capacity?

I'm sure there will be more details to follow, but now all we have is wild speculation.

Are their any other names we should be watching going into the offseason?

If I remember correctly Adam Hammes is the biggest name with a contract ending this year.

Other notable names include: Gregg Barsby, Andrew Fish, Holly Finley, Scott Withers, Benjamin Callaway, Andrew Presnell and Paige Shue.

Infinite is not required to use Innova tops and bottoms. Why wouldnt they just build some of their own at this point. Legacy/MVP did a great job from scratch. Dynamic should have built extra tools of popular discs and ran them in Emporia years ago.

As a person born and raised in eastern NC I have to say vinegar based whole hog BBQ is the only way to go.

This stuff here is excellent on a plain white bun with a sprinkle of Texas Pete.

Based on the info available for the Gibson deal, it sounds like he has the potential to make millions, but it's not guaranteed.

Seems like a cool deal, just a lot of hype to build excitement for his new brand.

An… uh… a 'performance-based' contract? Futuristic.

None of those folks stand out to me in terms of likely candidates to jump to a new company, but I'd love to be proven wrong. Barsby especially feels like someone who will stick with where they are now.

How long until this thread becomes a BBQ thread?

What's the best way to clean the inside of your grill? I've been experiencing a lot more grease flareups lately that take a long time to burnout.

I had heard the KONG dog toy name was an issue as well (KONG Extreme Flyer and Classic Flyer dog toy) plus McBeth wasn't really feeling the name to begin with.

I like Drew, but don't see him making waves at the upper echelon.
.

I strongly disagree with this assessment. I think he might very well have the best long term potential of all of the young guns. He's serious about discgolf, been touring and playing for a long time, his form is immaculate and he doesn't seem to be having any problems with reoccurring injuries. Drew is solid, he's got that stocky muscled up build to him that can withstand the grind.

We shall see, but if I'm betting on any of the young under 25 crowd to win the next Worlds, I'm going with him, hands down.

I like that Drew has a lot of uniqueness. He's doing things differently than most of the others. (A bit like Nikko in that way.)
