boo on earphones. i cant handle them. feel like im trapped in a spider web when i throw. i have about 2 gb of select tunes on my cell phone and usually listen to that about 1/3 of the time that i golf. golf is therapy for me and the tunes help me get more centered.

As much as a music buff as I am, I tried to listen to my Ipod, it became a distraction. From the ear bud getting yanked out when I drive, to spending 5 minutes trying to find a song that set the mood for the moment. Now, as I'm going to the course to get psyched up... Actually, that may be too difficult to nail down. Sometimes AC/DC gets me going, or Social D, Other times it's The Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, or some other techno music. Rap, Rock, New, Old, My Ipod is full of music from Snoop Dogg to Waylon Jennings. I'm a plethora of musical eclecticity. ...having said that, I've come to the conclusion, music can become cumbersome to me when I'm playing. Although, I do keep Jackyl's The Lumberjack handy in my phone for those days I hit more trees than air! :)

i have to agree to apothecary on this one golfing relaxes me but then again hard rock does to so a good day for me would be golfing while listening to some good metal

I tried listening to my ipod one round and hated it. I'll take the noise of the course and nature any day.

I would rather not have music on the course, wouldn't mind it if it is the music I like, but played a couple doubles matches with a guy that listened to classic rock and it totally threw my game off. Nothing against classic rock, just not my preference.

Only song I know of with a chainsaw solo :D

If the cord for your earbuds gets in the way, run it under your shirt instead of on top. Or buy a hoodie with a passthrough for the cord like I did :hfive:

The style of music really doesn't seem to affect my playing, as long as I'm in the mood for it at that time. I've played very good rounds while listening to nothing but grindcore (ala Pig Destroyer or Agoraphobic Nosebleed), and one very bad round while listening to Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. Mostly I prefer a diverse mix, though. It seems to balance out better that way.

Nice! A little 'Prowler in the Yard' is a good thing! I also like Dying Fetus and Benumb for getting the round going. If my I Pod is on shuffle it may be Schubert followed by Scissorfight and then Dwight Yoakam or Kasey Chambers.
Most of the guys I play with would prefer I use the earbuds! LOL!

I've been thinking of getting one of these to clip onto my bag. I've never played music while playing before but may try it.

Solo- sure
With friends- nah.

Depends ...but more so a no!!!

I have listened to my I-pod a few times on the course. Only during a very casualy game though. When we play, it's usually a pretty competitive game. It's the other peoples music I can't stand...who the hell wants to hear "Alllllll Day Iiiiiiiiiii dream aboooouuuuuutttt seeexxxxx" on the f***ing disc golf course. And loud at that.

But I listen to country 24/7....so I'm sure I'd get knocked big time haha.

WOOT WOOT to all my country jammin mother f***ers!!!

rhinesel...link for those speakers pls

That one is made by Colby, but I've seen the design used for other manufacturers too. I really haven't looked too much into it yet so I don't know the quality of them.

Basically the mp3 player gets zipped into the pouch and there is a wire that plugs into your headphone jack for the speakers. Runs off a couple of AA.

Link to the Colby page:

Same design, different company. This is the HMDX-GO.

Sometimes I take my I pod, othertimes not. Mainly I like to enjoy the sounds of nature which unfortunately includes a lot of wacks from my disc and tree hits.

I have one speaker 200 feet down the first hole in my backyard course and another by the basket on the second hole.I get no complaints about it.Sounds great and can here it on all the other holes.

I have tried a few solo rounds with my ipod and I don't care for it. I love being outside in nature and listening to the sounds on the course. plus, I don't like not being able to hear what's going on around me, especially when there are flying objects near by.

You can get them at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $10. Three of my buddies have them for the purpose of disc golf. Decent sound too.

I used to listen to my ipod when I was playing, but realized that it is more of a distraction for me than anything. I enjoy music too much to not pay attention to it - especially when it's my own.

edit: and like others, I enjoy listening to the sounds of the outdoors in the spring/summer/fall, and also enjoy the silence of the winter months on the course as well.

I don't really prefer listening to music during rounds. I like nature and concentration. However, I like listening to music while I practice my putting and it all depends on my mood for what I'm gonna listen to. A lot of times I'll listen to Tribe Called Quest, Bisco, DMB. Nothing makes me pumped to play a round like Tribe though.

I think headphones are cool, but I really don't understand this whole 'playing music for everybody to hear' thing. Especially at busy courses. I think the reason I don't understand it is because EVERYBODY is ALWAYS playing complete crap!!!! Whether it be screaming metal, obscure hippie ****, or ummmm.... obscure hippie ****, nobody ever seems to be playing anything that I want to hear.

Does anybody else encounter this? Also, when a group is playing music, I also notice that they are just silent and frowning. None of them look like they are having a good time, probably because they feel far too cool to smile because that phish song that is playing is just sooooo awesome!!!

Just curious to see what others think about what everybody ELSE is playing...not just your tunes. I personally would rather hear that ice cream truck that bumps jingle bells in august.
