DGPT: 2022 Texas State Championship Mar 24-27

I thought so too, but the disc was def in the basket even if it hadn't settled when he jumped forward to retrieve it.

the status of the disc doesn't have any impact on whether or not a foot fault should be called (assuming the person has released the disc)

All he needs to do is demonstrate balance before approaching basket.

I know and understand the rule, which was why I said it. Why would I be saying it looked sus if I didn't know what to be sus about??

And I wasn't 100% sure he did that when watching it live.

No worries, you are fine. Your phrase about the disc being in the basket threw me off a little since it is irrelevant, but I can see now what your original meaning was.

I watched it live and didn't notice, so it must have not been terribly obvious.

I hate that they moved most of this course out of the woods... it's a shame..

Instead of skinny lines and hitting an unlucky tree... we get string o.b. and raised baskets by roads...
So we can make 1000 spectators happy? What about the 150k+ viewers that want to see nature, shot shaping, and pure disc golf ...instead of baseball diamonds, roads, and painted lines...

Plus you really expose the players to the wind with this Thorn layout...
If the wind was like Waco this course would have been a sh@t show...(which was a strong possibility)

Sad to see disc golf leaving the woods

I like good mixed courses myself, and am fine with 4-8 thick woods holes per course, but I think your take is more common than mine. So now this becomes who really controls where these courses are, and what their makeup will be moving forward. Well, the answer to everything is always follow the money. It would seem that the vast majority of cash in this sport right now is in disc sales. That is the ONLY way all these manufacturers could afford the 6 and 7 figure incomes to the top players.

So that said, I would say in the end that they have a great opportunity to call the shots. They, for now, are the majority sponsors of tournaments, the majority advertisers in online content, etc. Why does this matter? Because if they control the cash flow in this sport, they should (if they don't already) have a large say in how the sport is run. And who has the ear of the manufacturers? The top players of course. If the 1050 group (or is 1040 the new 1050?) started pitching a fit about the course selection, could they not affect some change?

I personally don't know any top players, and dont really watch interviews, so I cannot say if the top players like the increasing bolf style layouts or not. If they do, I think they are here to stay, but if not--I would argue they still have some leverage in all this.

It's not the tournaments that are making Paul and Ricky a cool million a year plus. Its the manufacturers of discs.

Or is my logic way off here?

It's not about using wide open courses because the in person spectators hate woods golf.

It's about wide open courses accommodating way more paying spectators. The flow of cash is going to determine everything.

Wide open courses also mean better likelihood of cell coverage, which live broadcasting requires.

DGPT has a very distinct vision as to how their events and course layouts are structured. If your event doesn't pass their test you won't be part of the cool kids club.

In other words if your event doesn't allow them to make money their way then you're on your own. Look at the Memorial, Master's Cup, and probably a couple other events with a lot of tradition I'm forgetting.

If you wanna watch free woods golf on YouTube you're gonna have to settle with these smaller local production companies.

So we can make 1000 spectators happy?

There were not 1000 ppl there. That gallery was pretty thin. I've seen bigger crowds at B-tiers.

Maybe scalpers bought the tickets up, but the attempt to squeeze revenue looks like it is throttling the life out of the live experience in the process. Maybe they'll have more luck at other venues.

dehaas nailed it. If you think he's wrong, ask yourself, "When's the last time money didn't talk?" Just cuz I don't like it, doesn't mean he's not right.

Sounds like a gallery that could have fit in the woods… maybe even at a place like… Dogwood.

DISC GOLF IS PLAYED IN THE WOODS

Have scalpers become a thing? I know our tourney at Idlewild still has tickets for all days available but I've not really looked at what's happening nationally.
