DFW disc golf

I'm heading down over christmas. How is the Garland course where the "battle of the bon" takes place?

Pretty good, decent challenges but no elevation, has had some changes lately due to storms but still one of the better ones in the area. However, if you have time and a car, Harry Myers and Towne Lake are better.

Update on Founders Park in Oak Cliff:
11 baskets are in and ready to play. Tee Pads are marked by orange flags.
From the East Dallas Disc Golf Associations Facebook:
This is a tryout with the city and area officials with the possibility of more to come in that area.
An issue with getting concrete tee pads where we want them will be the walking paths. PLEASE RESPECT people on the trail and let them get VERY clear before throwing. Please respect the park and the people around you, and pick up your trash.

Again this is from the Facebook, I don't have much more information than that. Here's a makeshift map of the holes and baskets for your viewing pleasure. Go out and give it a whirl.

Played Founder's Park yesterday. Fun course for the elevation changes alone. This is a great place to introduce someone to the game.

All of the holes are short and you can see the baskets from the tees. it's not tough by anyone's standards, but it's fun to play.

I plan on getting out there and checking it out soon. This week the plan was to head out to Round Rock and then through Austin/San Antonio on a backpacking trip down in Southwest Texas, but now I'm curious if I'll be able to get away from cleaning up the storm damage. I may try to hit up Founders Tuesday if I get some free time. Looks like a very good start in the city.

Not this 40 yr old Bill, didn't get out this weekend.

that's my bad. i saw the cut off map posted above and only saw 10 holes. i assumed the 11th was a practice basket.

notified the mods, should be changed shortly. thanks for the heads up.

i finally got around to revising my review of Fritz Park. much thanks to the people here, some of whom i know lurk in this thread, who messaged me about checking out the new new redesign.

i love the new layout. anyone know if there are going to be any events at Fritz now?

The "new" 18 hole layout I played last spring isn't the one on the course map on the "links/files" tab. The new holes were at the top of the picture in the open areas between the trees and the street. At that time, there weren't any holes on the other side of the creek.

Which layout is the current layout?

that is the old "new" layout. the current layout is a HUGE improvement.

i slammed the old new layout in my review because it was bad. i got a lot of comments and PM's over the past year, some who were just letting me know about the newest layout and some from people who just wanted to see my rating changed.

the map on the course page shows the current layout. you should definitely give it a chance.

the new holes on the new layout are so much better than the new holes on the other older layout. there is a lot of space to work with on most these holes but with a clear line of tree trouble on one side, or a low canopy to deal with, or the weird combination of elevation and trees on the drive on hole 13.

meh....still has a "we have long holes, just to have long holes" kind of vibe to me. I LOVE the land, trees, the people, etc, it's a gorgeous park, I'd like to see some more technical shots and better use of the land. They could probably add several more holes if they wanted to.

Thanks! I'll keep suggesting this to the "old men group" until we get over to play it.

Steve, glad to hear you like the newest layout. I thought you would. It's funny you mention the lines on 13 & 14 being awkward in your review because decades ago when the course expanded to 18 holes for tournaments those two holes played in the opposite direction and IMO made for better throws. It's weird now to play them going in the opposite direction to what I remember. Still, I'm glad to have a full 18 out there now at Fritz.

haha, that's wild!

so then it could be "we have lots of holes, just to have lots of holes"?

i agree that 14 is long for the sake of long, or rather just to get back to the other side of the park. but the other new holes are not too long. 9 is short, 10-12 are perfectly sized for the area they are in and for the lines they demand, 13 and 14 could use some work. the rest is the classic layout except for 3-5 and those are about as good as it gets for that area, maybe some extra pin locations just for variety on otherwise plain holes.

i like technical shots as much as the next guy but there's only so much you can do. my primary point was that this layout is a huge improvement over the last one.
