If Nike made DG gear/discs, would you buy it?

Nike headquarters are 5 minutes from my home (Beaverton). Dave Feldberg lives about 20 minutes from my home. Phil Knight has made the Univ of Oregon facilities the best in the country with his wealth. Dave graduated at Oregon and started a DG club there. Maybe these 2 guys will hook up in the next 5 years. And it's safe to say that Nike would be paying its players a lot more than Innova.

Puma might make a mean disc...

Phil Knight didn't even create anything. The man made a fortune taking Bill Bowerman's shoes and adding a swoosh to market them. I guess that makes him a marketing genius, but still Bowerman is the man!

Be careful not to ruin an otherwise 'OK' argument with a hasty, overbroad generalization…

I know, I know, but had to end it somehow; and allow for the counterpoint, i.e. "I refuse to eat at KFC or shop at Walmart", and, here's why....etc.

Actually, I don't like KFC; and with the food intake issues you are working with (VeganRay), I'm sure you don't either. I have a friend in Madison, Wis. who has done very little vehicle driving for most of his life; as he doesn't believe in supporting the "gasoline complex." He also believes in personal fitness; and that mass transportation and highly localized jobs (i.e. big cities) is the way to go. He therefore drives his bicycle hundreds of miles sometimes, to come visit his original home town and other places. However, he works for the state government (in his case, in a nearly 100% good way); but, compare that with a roofer; who does a dangerous job every day and likely ends up without retirement, etc. My point was; that there are probably very few of us who can say we do not support something we would rather not support; given the economic situation; if nothing else. It will take a world where economics does not exist to make these choices "real." We are a long way from that....(or, perhaps not...:))

Even were money to disappear; there would still be issues relating to "worth". I.e. even in a barter situation, one thing will have more value than another. Many persons would put doctors in on the top rung of this ladder. However, how long ago was it that you sawed a person's arm off to "heal them?" How much longer do we think that prescribing some drug for everything will be considered healing? How about blasting person's with radiation? These things will be considered as barbaric as sawing off a person's arm in the not too distant future. So, what is the real value of the medical profession? Primarily making a person feel good; is their value.
Persons should be able to heal themselves (does this have a familiar ring to anyone?). However, we have not quite advanced to this level yet. This is a particular area that VeganRay seems to be working towards a knowledge of. Good for him... However, the ingestion of any "natural" substances kills the body. Actually, THINKING, kills the body. Does this mean that we should stop thinking? No, it is the primary achievement of the time period as far back as most of us know of (read well prior to any history that has been written or even orally transmitted); and was/is desired by those "above" us. "In the beginning, was the word" announces the "modern age." (again, realize that this goes back very far by our current time standards). Our knowledge was much wider before this time; but was much different. It was much more based on "group consciousness." Family values are a remnant of this period. Our period has been involved with individualization as it's primary goal (I stress again, that here, many thousands of years is implied).

I tried to wrap things up with a generalization concerning shopping at KFC and Walmart...blame Ray for this continuation....:)

And now, because this forum is mostly for fun and to cheer a fun activity...I say yes to Nike plastic; cause their swoosh presents a mean u-turn fairway design that should become a trademark of any course they would eventually put in!!! :)

With Vibram already in the disc golf business in the real world and Nike's impending entrance into the game in Bizarro World, watch out for the upcoming discs from Bruno Magli (particularly the fast, penetrating OJ Pro Slasher) & Manolo Blahnik (the Stiletto & Mule are their hot understable models).

at the very least his account has been hijacked by a high school hippie who just smoked weed for the first time.

That, or he's been playing tons of Civilization and reading about Tim Leary's thoughts on evolution and society. :)

Edit: "developing world," not "3rd world..." ;)

I will not return any Nike discs;)

That wouldnt help because whover threw it probably likes some Nike discs and you not returning them would cause that person to buy more, pouring more money in to Nike and further increasing their soon to be monoply of disc golf discs.

I used to catch flack for using what was called "Round 2" golf balls. Needless to say, its been a long time and I found disc golf to be cheaper without buying recovered and cleaned equipment.

You could have made a poll about this to get a better picture of what the forum members are thinking.

I would stick with the regular disc golf gear in order to keep using what is working.

Now if down the road more people were using the nike stuff. I may have to switch up and try a few of the products.

Disc golf could end up going main stream. It is on a popular golf video game. Plus, as you can see more and more parks are putting in a course around the world.

I am looking into building a website for health and adding disc golf as an easy way to get yourself into shape.

I noticed you are from Ashland. I am wanting to make the trip out there to your local course. I just have not made the trip yet. Is the course as nice as I heard it is. I am from Canton, Oh with one of the better courses around. We just had the Big Tourney of the year here. The Hall of Chains.

Very good point but here are the facts from my eyes:
skateboarding pre Nike- bunch of cool guys hanging, listening to good music
skateboarding post Nike- bunch of dudes in skinny jeans with girl bangs listening to crappy music
yeah they have way more skateparks where thier moms can drop them off at, but it'll never touch what it once was.
Dwayne Peters once spit in Tony Hawks face and declared: this is punk rock bitch:)

Don't worry, 15 year olds will find some other destructive way of not growing up and pretending they're being rebellious. I'm sure of it.

Had a buddy, younger than me, put in a U2 tape (the fact that he even owned such a thing as a cassette shows he's not that young) yesterday. Anyone old enough remember that "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" was nearly a punk tune in it's day? Rebellion changes quite quickly these days....U2 punk; WTF?
