Be careful not to ruin an otherwise 'OK' argument with a hasty, overbroad generalization…
I know, I know, but had to end it somehow; and allow for the counterpoint, i.e. "I refuse to eat at KFC or shop at Walmart", and, here's why....etc.
Actually, I don't like KFC; and with the food intake issues you are working with (VeganRay), I'm sure you don't either. I have a friend in Madison, Wis. who has done very little vehicle driving for most of his life; as he doesn't believe in supporting the "gasoline complex." He also believes in personal fitness; and that mass transportation and highly localized jobs (i.e. big cities) is the way to go. He therefore drives his bicycle hundreds of miles sometimes, to come visit his original home town and other places. However, he works for the state government (in his case, in a nearly 100% good way); but, compare that with a roofer; who does a dangerous job every day and likely ends up without retirement, etc. My point was; that there are probably very few of us who can say we do not support something we would rather not support; given the economic situation; if nothing else. It will take a world where economics does not exist to make these choices "real." We are a long way from that....(or, perhaps not...
)
Even were money to disappear; there would still be issues relating to "worth". I.e. even in a barter situation, one thing will have more value than another. Many persons would put doctors in on the top rung of this ladder. However, how long ago was it that you sawed a person's arm off to "heal them?" How much longer do we think that prescribing some drug for everything will be considered healing? How about blasting person's with radiation? These things will be considered as barbaric as sawing off a person's arm in the not too distant future. So, what is the real value of the medical profession? Primarily making a person feel good; is their value.
Persons should be able to heal themselves (does this have a familiar ring to anyone?). However, we have not quite advanced to this level yet. This is a particular area that VeganRay seems to be working towards a knowledge of. Good for him... However, the ingestion of any "natural" substances kills the body. Actually, THINKING, kills the body. Does this mean that we should stop thinking? No, it is the primary achievement of the time period as far back as most of us know of (read well prior to any history that has been written or even orally transmitted); and was/is desired by those "above" us. "In the beginning, was the word" announces the "modern age." (again, realize that this goes back very far by our current time standards). Our knowledge was much wider before this time; but was much different. It was much more based on "group consciousness." Family values are a remnant of this period. Our period has been involved with individualization as it's primary goal (I stress again, that here, many thousands of years is implied).
I tried to wrap things up with a generalization concerning shopping at KFC and Walmart...blame Ray for this continuation....
