I just moved here from Colorado and played disc golf almost daily in my hometown and I had a pretty sweet course. But I now go to school at LMU and can't seem to find anyone that plays or any good courses. If anyone wants to show someone new to the area some courses I would be more then grateful! I haven't played in a couple months now and seeing my discs everyday in my room is starting to kill me!

Welcome to West LA.

Your closest option is a little 9 holer in Manhattan Beach, good for putting/upshot practice and not much else : http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1701

Your best four 18-hole course options, in order of proximity to LAX:

Chavez Ridge, a technical 18-hole course right next to Dodger Stadium with tons of elevation ups and downs (3.44 average rating, 30 minutes from LAX) : http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1109

El Dorado, a flat and pleasant 18-hole course in Long Beach (3.56 average rating, 35 minutes from LAX) : http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=216

La Mirada, a public park with two 18 hole courses on site(rated 3.60 and 3.90, 35 minutes from LAX): http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3364 and http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=252

All driving times assume zero traffic, so basically if you're going first thing on a weekend. Otherwise double the listed time... welcome to LA :gross:

Sweet thanks for all the info. I have heard about the little 9 hole course which I will have to check out but I really want a course with more variation. Something with some technical and some long drives that are 350-400 ft. I'm looking forward to some traffic:)

Sylmar is about as close as La Mirada. Unfortunately, you have to take the 405. Good luck with that. Better yet, get out of LA and hit Casitas or Sky High.

If you ever want to venture down to my neck of the woods I have a lifetime pass to the 3 18 hole courses at the regional parks in San bernardino County. I have played alot of courses in the state and would be happy to show you any in my area. Just let me know.

Avoid Polliwog. M-F, 9a-5p (excluding holidays) could possibly be OK. Any time outside those parameters the park is full of OBLIVIOUS (to DG anyway) park users.

If you ever want to try and play the 3 regional parks in one day ( I have done it a few times with 3-4people). You can drive to prado regional park in chino and park at the closet supermarket and we can take my car an go play 3-4 courses if you want or wherever and then I can drop you back at your car. LAX is like 50-55 miles to prado regional park in Chino. I love Huntington Beach and La Mirada. Those are much closer for you. Just think about it and if you ever want to play or are thinking of playing close to me just message me. Wrightwood will be open for another 6-8 weeks I you ever want to play we could try to meet up there in a group and maybe you could catch a ride from someone close to you or I know people in Pasadena. Just keep your options open.

Yea I'm definitely game to play. I don't have a car right now I would have to see if someone will let me borrow their car. Do you normally have play on the weekends?

@highflyer -- and I will definitely be aware of that. Do you like the course?

I did enjoy it. I would play again if my schedule allowed. There's use of some altitude, terrain (ampitheater for one), some lightly tree'd holes (not really wooded), and a couple chances to open up. However, if the park is busy with non-dgers, it can be very hard to get around them.

Lion, I am also new to the area (moved from sacramento to moreno valley for work. Sucking.) and I've played a majority of the local courses but playing alone gets old. I would love to play with someone I could learn from . My work schedule is is a little light at the moment so its as good a time as any for me. Let me know if you feel like dragging an extra head along next time you go.
