since im new to DG and looking for my first set of discs im not sure of all the lingo....

what should i look for in terms of stability?

i throw right handed and can throw a normal frisbee a long ways in a straight line

Welcome newcomer. There's a area on here dedicated to disc discussion. Basicly start with something around 0 for stability. Good beginer discs include stuff like Discrafts amazing Buzzz and Inovas Leopard. Also try a solid putter such as a Challenger, Magnet, Aviar etc. People on this site can be brutal, esp. if you post in the wrong areas or don't search for previous threads with the same info.

thanks for the help man...

to those who get mad over people posting in the wrong areas lol get over it....cant make them all happy

Thats true, you're not going to make everyone happy no matter what you do. Just trying to save you from getting flamed already!

I RESENT THAT!

Really though, following is a link to a flight chart that's pretty easy to understand. IMO start with the lower left corner and draw a line to level#8 and stay under that line and you'll have a pretty good beginner selection to choose from.

As a specific suggestion try an Aero. It's the single most versatile disc I carry.

i appreciate the help guys...i learned a TON of info on here today and its my first day on the site

Starfire -- driver (overstable -- or at least will be for you)
Valkyrie -- driver (stable)
Raodrunner - driver (understable)

Teebird/Gazelle -- fairway driver (stable)
Leopard --- fairway driver (understable)

KC Roc -- midrange

Putter -- choose anyone that feels that best in your hand.

If you look at those discs and their "flight chart numbers"(on Innova's disc chart) for turn, glide, speed, fade and stick close to the discs in the "middle-to-right side" of the chart. you should be fine.

Don't get anything faster than a speed 9 or 10 disc. At this point, EVERYTHING faster than that will fly pretty much the exact same way, because you don't have the arm speed or D to get them to do what they're molded for.

DGCR Acronyms and Initialisms < This link might clear up some forum lingo and slang you might come across.

I really like Joe's Flight Chart as it explains its ratings and is pretty comprehensive.

You basically want to bone up on your stable-understable discs and stay away from the overstable discs for now. Slower is better (speed 7 and lower in Innova speak). Stay away from gimmick putters (anything by Quest AT for example) and you'll be fine.

Grandpa prerube, save us!

I'd actually vote for going with a dx shark and a dx aviar. I find both to fly a lot like ultimate discs, for me anyway.

I say boy, you have negative .2 years playing.

I say boy, you have negative .2 years playing.

...something went wrong.

That means he will start playing disc golf on May 22, 2011. He is trying to figure out which discs he will need and get them all ready. He has 73 days to prepare.

Find someone who is a good player that will give you a couple of lessons. That way you will save a lot of time and painful injuries in learning how to play well.

I just put sidewinder's nonsense through the Google Translator and it spit out:

"Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.". Son of a bitch!

Sidewinder's circuits are on the fritz again, time for a reboot.
