Wellsbranch250's Backyard Course In Development.

It looks like a beautiful piece of land. I envy your elevation. We've been working on our courses for 6 years now yet our project list is still a mile long. I've never worked harder in my life, but there's nothing else I'd rather be doing.

This is great to hear. Do you have a thread on your course or pictures you'd be willing to share?

Dave, If you ever find yourself near Austin Texas, you need to take a detour and play Flying Armadillo (Gblambert's courses.) The Gold layout is truly iconic. Still the most fun course I have ever played, and its not even course.

Hey looks even better in the Spring all green and stuff... keep going man it looks awesome...

Around my place the standing rule is you can clear bush and branches before your shot, if you want to do work to make your line better go for it. Worked out well in the early years of the course.. Worked great got 10+ man hours of work every tourney, 5 min at a time. Might put a stop to it soon though. If that helps you out at all.

I quite like this idea. My literally "rough around the edges" course could use a little extra elbow room.

Yeah when the kids from the middle school have come to play it they say it's their favourite course mostly for that reason... plus it's short.. I always play with a light half serrated pocket knife in case I need to remove some Scotch broom, and you can use larger sticks as a bat to shave off twiggy dead branches off the trees quickly.

Hole 4s evolution over the last 10 months. This comparison is from the short tee (green). It's about 200 feet. The red tee is at roughly 260, white at 300 and blue at 380 feet.

A lot of rain again last night, but it seems like the clean-up will be minor. I hope to get the first round of 2020 in tomorrow. 9 baskets are in the ground now, although there are two baskets on both holes 1 and 4. I still need to make holes 2 and 3.

I can see some stone landscaping built up and protecting the green from flooding... Kind of like Idlewild, only with the beautiful stone that you have vs. the ugly concrete plugs that they used. :)

When my friend and dgcr member GMcAtee saw my new stone terracing and mulching on this hole last week (hole 4), he said the same thing. "Wow, this looks like Idlewild." Just about all of the rocks in the image were picked from the mulched area. I am going to create multiple mulched terraces in this area.

I started work on clearing fairway 2 on Sunday, which will be my 8th fairway. the fairway elevation is a "W" as it criss-crosses two valleys.

preliminary hole 2 distance are as follows.
Green tee 170 feet, Red tee 270, White tee 290 to placement A.

Eventually i'll have a par 4 placement doglegging to the right 120 feet and playing up 35 feet in elevation perched on a mini plateau.

V-Rock Construction Update. 1-3-20 to 1-19-20
The fairway rough-in for hole 2 is pretty much complete all the way back to the White tee with the help of DGCR members GMcAtee an werricson. We cut down about a dozen trees between 4 to 10 inches in diameter on this fairway and had to clear a downed 24" diameter oak at a crossing point. We also leveled tee surfaces for the red tee and green tee on hole 2. Hole 2 distances are tape measured at 148' for Green, 262' for Red, 308' for White and 350ish for Blue. The fairway will eventually expand by doglegging to the right for a par 4.

I also did some additional fairway building on holes 1 and 4. Hole 1's last fairway leg was roughed-in as well. 500 feet to position E.

Just one fairway rough-in to go to get to 9 fairways.

Hole 2 from Red tee. 262' to position A as shown.

I am absolutely loving the natural terrain you're using. Super in-depth planning and killer execution. This is going to be a kick-ass course!

Yep! Once again, I'm still thrilled to have my own course so that I can play whenever I want, especially now. And it's a nice, small, piece of property.

But your property... again, Wow!!! Super nice work! :hfive:

Got some more course work in over the weekend. Descriptions above each image

Hole 9 looking up fairway. Position A on the rocks, Position C lower right, Position B is on top of the stump. The white tee can sort-of be seen way down there with a slight spec of a lighter pixel representing a cone.

Hole 5 white tee. a RHFH shot that plays up about 25 to 30 feet. I built the back shoring this weekend and put in a stump bench

Development of the green on hole 4 which has already required nearly a thousand picked rocks that are being moved to make berms. The image looks up fairway.
