So I played up in INT my first time saturday, and was introduced to (imo) one of the less appealing aspects of our sport, baiting. About 3 holes in, I threw a big hyzer drive, and caught some leaves on the back side of a tree, knocking my shot down. One guy on my card, who knew I was playing up, looks at me and says, "wow, you must be a rec player." I'll admit, it completely worked, I was pissed. But I realized how much that happens, at least at the "upper levels" around my area. Looking back on that round, I'm mad at myself for letting it get to me, but I will say, I'm no longer afraid to bait someone myself if need be.

What's everyone elses stance on "baiting"?

I've always laughed at people who do it. I figure if they're so worried that they do it then most likely I don't have to worry about them out throwing me.

im a rec player but i've only played in around 5 tournaments. all of which were great experiences and every card i've been on were all great people. we constantly help each other out and teach each other the rules.

from what i understand, it's usually like this at my level. seems that all the a-holes tend to come out of the woodwork in the upper levels.

if someone tried to get me angry, i would do two things; one, not let it get to me, and two, not reciprocate.

rise above
2 douches do not make a right

edit: fight back with humour
something like "well obviously with that throw"

with luck the other guys on the card get a kick out of it and the other guy looks like a wanker

guys like that don't advance the sport

You could of done a few things since the guy was being a -D-
1. Say another word and I'll beat you @$$ after the tourney!
2.Laugh and say I was actually thinking the same thing about you!
3.Just keep talking smack , The guy will get so mad after awhile he wont be able to throw!
4.Just laugh and wait until you beat him on the scorecard then rub it in!
5. It is what it is and just let it go!

Dont let Brall fool you I've seen his scores! :D

I've seen quite a bit of that, and I just don't let it get to me. I play my own game and if people think they need to play mind games I figure that's less concentration on their own game. I don't do it myself, but I really don't care one way or the other if the other people on my card are playing those kinds of games.

I've found that some sarcastic praise can also be a head game. If I'm getting beat by a DBag of similiar skill, I'll try to over inflate my opponents ego. Big egos take big risks and without the skill to back it up, the result is usually very shanky. Sixty percent of the time, it works everytime:thmbup:

"Dude you're on fire this round, you gonna crush this next hole or what?"

Now all I'll be able to do is laugh when someone does that because I'll call it "baiting" in my head and I'll get the mental image of Frito from "Idiocracy."

I don't know what the "official" term for it is, but baiting just fit it for me.

That's why I don't play alot of bigger tournaments around here. 75% of the people that play them are DBs. I don't know if it's the same around other peoples areas but it is here. I would have given thought to griplocking an xcalibur into his neck.

"Dude you're on fire this round, you gonna crush this next hole or what?"

This is my tactic, too! Well, with my friends (and we allllways keep score). I don't play many tourneys, with only one notch on my belt, but I think I'd employ this tactic there as well =D

I actually used that sarcasm tactic the next day when I played the rec division. On a 400' hole, the group ahead of us all had really short tee shots, so I dropped, "wow, don't bomb your upshot that far, or you'll definitely go ob."

Made me smile watching 2 outta the three over compensate and throw past the hole and OB.
