Selah Ranch

It's over by the path... as you walk around the pond to the left. 160 foot over land the whole way. Played it there this summer. Disappointed by the move. Not everyone in our group can carry 300 feet over water to play the longs.

Are you talking about 17? And what path are you talking about? There is no path on 18.

Someone's messing with your design, John!

Or somebody's messing with my head (unintentionally).

The short tee on Creekside #17 has always been 169' and 100% over land.

The short tee on #18 has always been 200' over the water. If either of these has changed since May, I'd appreciate someone cluing me in.

From the long, it's just assume you'll lose your first disc (and be thrilled if you don't!), and then we'll make up whatever drop-zone, OB, or re-tee rule we feel like. I honestly don't even know the real rules in play there.

The safe play on Creekside #18 is to throw your drive over by the short tee, which leaves you with 200' to the pin. For some reason, a lot of people think that area is OB and that you have to go for the pin from the long tee, which is not true -- there's a very fair (but not super easy) safe way to play the hole.

I played with Eegor that day. 17 is a short hole over land with water behind. 18 is over water and 200 sounds right. I shanked a shark right into the water lol. My 1st time there. That was June 27th

I'm not really sure what the other Ken (eegor) is saying. My 1st time so nothing to compare it to.

Anybody go to Am Doubles and have a course condition report?

The Selah Ranch is in good shape. Standing water was only a real factor on a couple holes ... #14 Creekside was the most problematic. But mostly in great shape.

There were many places of standing water on Texas Twist in Mt Vernon.

Can you tent camp at Selah? On their website all I see is cabins. I'd love to stay there for a weekend on my next trip, but I'm not paying $200+/night.

yes, you can tent camp. if forget but i think it's $20 a day and reduced green fees

Dope. Thanks. This is definitely my first stop on my November road trip then. I only played each course once, a couple years back, and it was like 110 outside.

Looking forward to a cooler and slower paced time there this fall.

You can. Just make sure you call to make reservations still, even for camping. They have a fire ring and trash cans in the camping area. There are showers and restrooms by the pro shop too.

Yeah, I remember using that shower when I was there last time. It was a god-send. Like I said it was like 110 degrees, and we had a looooong stretch of driving to do after. They were nice too, except the large spider in one.

Which reminds me, the biggest damn spider I ever saw in my life was at Selah, in the long grass on the island green. It was like hand-sized and eating something. Terrifying.

Native Texan here... the bigs ones are cool. They won't mess with you as long you don't mess with them. It's the dime sized black and the nickel sized brown ones you need to avoid at all costs.

Just got back from our annual trip. What I am about to say is all about me and NOT the courses or the quality of them. Anyway, I may be done with this particular trip. I am finding that I just don't enjoy this type of course as much as I did when we first started going. I have had shoulder issues over the years, and the amount of par4/5s plus the undriveable par 3s(for me) just add up on me. The enjoyment I get out of disc golf is measured by how excited I am to throw a particular tee shot. There just wasn't that much excitement for me this weekend. A few too many placement drives and too few throwing at baskets. I found that I enjoyed playing lake Nacogdoches on the way up was more fun. OTOH, if a group from here is definitely going, I am not sure I could really say no. So, I guess I am conflicted on it.

Did you play the longs or the shorts? My group of guys ages 40-51, and we've all been playing 20+ years, and we all are 920+ golfers who drive 300+.......and we play the shorts at Selah almost exclusively. AND we play doubles almost exclusively. We used to play the longs at all Houck's other courses (Wimberley, San Saba, Moody's), with lots of Singles rounds. But now the golf is secondary (tertiary?) to food, drink, bro-time......and playing the shorts (and doubles) makes it WAY more fun and WAY less arduous.
