Roggen, You're killin me with that Coon dye! :D Awesome!

Just finished this Opto Pearl for one of my Daughter's birthday presents (10 yrs. old). Black line work is hot dipped with a combination of I-Dye and RIT black (Since I-Dye is a "cool" black, and RIT is a "warm" black, the mixture is neither, and very opaque). The colors were all painted by brush with a variety of RIT, I-Dye and Pylam.

Peace,

This may be one of my favorite dyes ever.

Had a little bad luck with bleeding dye on a couple stencils- anyone have some secrets for stopping that? I get the uneven bits on the edge as flat as I can with my fingernail, but it always seems to get through. This one had the least problems today-

Seal your edges down with a credit card or squeegee/burnisher while slightly heating it with a hair dryer on low. The heat and pressure help to 'activate' the adhesive. If you have questionable wrinkles just seal them down as best you can and then a little dab of rubber cement over the potential bleed spot will stop it. The only downside to heating to seal the vinyl is that you will likely have lots of adhesive residue on the disc after removing the stencil, but goo gone on a qtip will take care of that.

Godlike...

What do you use to mix with the (powdered?) dye for painting?

I agree on the C&H, SICK work hurricane!

Those greens....you gotta tell me how you got those beautiful, beautiful greens....

Man! Thanks everyone, for the kind replies! C&H has always been one of my favorites, and over the last couple of years, for my Daughter too, so this was one of my favorite dyes to work on. Wife wants this one to hang on the wall.:D

Which RIT are you referring to? Liquid or powder?

I'm using some of the old RIT powder packets.

What do you use to mix with the (powdered?) dye for painting?

I'm using clear laundry detergent (about 2 oz.) with about .5 tsp. powder dye, and about .5 tsp. acetone. It's not the perfect consistency, but it works. I'm going to try some thickening agents next time, because the acetone makes it too thin sometimes.

BTW, that rose dye turned out awesome PirateNate!

The greens were a little of everything and kinda interesting, Bennett. I'll put together a labeled pic for you soon. ;)

Peace,
-Jeff

Bennett, here ya go...

These are the basics of what dyes I used for the grassy green areas. There is some layering, blending and multiple coats, but that would be too hard to label.

The real surprise was the Pylam mixture! I was trying to figure out what to use for Calvin's skin color (I left that for last, cause I was dreading the possibility of screwing it up!), and mixed up some fluorescent yellow, with just a touch of bright red. luckily, I tested it out on one of the rocks in the foreground first. ;) Big surprise when I rinsed it off, and it was green!

HTH.;)

Peace,
-Jeff

Tanks for the pic Jeff, incredible work. So crazy how colors work in the disc dyeing process sometimes, especially with greens and browns. Want a nice, rich shade of purple/lilac? Go with Rit Dark Brown, or soften with a little Tan!
How about a nice, almost true black? Can't beat Rit Dark Green!

BTW, that rose dye turned out awesome PirateNate!

Lost in the shuffle of the C&H dye, but I agree, that rose is EXCELLENT!

Finally got a few done! Working on a couple more multi-colors that I've been sitting on for way too long.

First two were done for AlexJensen86. These are both old school Pro Leopards. Really enjoyed getting to dye such excellent old plastic! Tacky and a little chalky even. Came out great. He said his wife cried at the sight of the yellow, no better feedback than that!

This one is for BigSky. Hate the bleed on the Tigers logo, but such is MVP stock stamps

Don't worry, the tiny bleed is barely noticeable, Bennett.

And thank you again for the awesome disc!!

I must say that y'all have went above and beyond with all of the artwork.

I remember my first, simple 2 dye...:(

Hey Bennet, ever wonder what happens to the discs you give away as prizes (for the Valentine's Day dye contest)?

it's no Calvin & Hobbs by Hurricane, but I'm still proud of it :)
