I was wondering what others thought about the private courses on here that seem pretty much unplayable to regular players that don't know the owner or belong to said group/org. I guess the question is should they be listed if the average joe can't play them? I don't mind the courses that allow you to play them at will or ask you to set a time with the owner. Even some course that are only playable once or twice a year for tournaments are ok with me. I'm a play them all player, and it's a peeve of mine to see a course on here and know that i'm not going to get to play it because it's private I'd almost rather not know about it. So whats everyone else's opinion?

All courses should be on here, IMO. The exceptions are private courses which the owner does not want listed here.

I agree. I'm hoping any private courses on this site were listed by the owner so hopefully there is a contact number or something for if you want to go out and play. I'm sure if you gave a $5 donation to them they would most likely let you come out.

If it truly is someone's backyard course and he only let's his 5 friends play, I don't see a reason to list it here. Other than that, I'd say private courses are fair game. I've only expired one private course where I was informed the owner didn't want it on the site for whatever reason.

They should be listed, but maybe with a different icon on the map to make it clear its not for just anyone

some private course probably won't be listed on here..i know of a few and the owners know better than to put it up at the pdga site also.they dont want the inflow of trash, vandalism,etc..are there any private courses near you(anyone) that are on this site?...let's get a list going

I find that it's the locals and not the people that come into a site to find courses that are vandalizing and littering.

Usually the private owners only wanted it open to locals/serious DGers. They want people playing their course they're familiar with and/or people they know are going to respect their course/land. The problems start when you get the casual/infrequent players who wouldn't have the same respect - i.e. littering, noise, signing baskets, etc. It's essentially the thinking of if you don't know about a private course or where it's located, there's a reason for that.

My buddy in Oakridge has a private 28 hole course and thats his main point.

lotsa private courses in nc..i am just wondering why a private course would be listed on a such an open forum such as this..and wre there any listed on dgcr?

i have a private course- it is listed on this site but the directions will not be. my contact info is on here and anyone wishing to play is free to do so provided they contact me prior. a few different folks from the site have come out to play. i don't really want unannounced players simply because we have livestock on the property.

You're right, there's a good number of private courses in NC. Olorin is the expert on all of them. The courses aren't usually listed in any public forum, unless the course owner decides he wants it public knowledge.

For example, Brackett's Bluff is a private course, and was listed on here. Dave Brackett, who built the course on his land, is not the one who posted info about his course on here. Now, he seems pretty cool about having people show up to play, but if it gets out of control, that'll change. The point is people shouldn't be listing private courses, especially on someone's property unless it's the course owner.

i agree with that totally..

As do I. I can totally understand why someone wouldn't want droves of people coming on to their land and messing up what they paid for and put their own hard work into. Personally I wouldn't be sad to see a lot more disc golf courses have tee times and maybe people there to watch over the course. I think it would put an end to a lot of the nonsense that goes on out there on the courses today.

I had an instance here in NC were some friends and I were playing a public course and had some guys come up and asked us if had played one of the private courses in the area. He started hyping in up, then asked if we knew some guy..? Once again we all said no. He then said well I guess you'll never get to play there then. Being a complete D bag. Come to find out all you have to do is call him and let him know youre coming and its all good! Most of the courses around here are like that. This guy was trying to be cool or something since he played there before and we hadnt.

Whenever I read posts about courses being trashed I feel really lucky. I can't think of a single course near me that is treated so poorly. Though, if I had a private course I would be concerned one about people trashing it, but mostly about liability issues that might come up with strangers on your property.

as long as i'm not asking for money to play, my farmowner's insurance covers most everything other than injury caused by the dg equipment itself which i don't see as very likely to occur.

Posting Private Courses

Biscoe, I hope I'm not speaking out of turn. I just wanted to say I posted Hawk Hollow, a BEAUTIFUL private course that isn't mine...but i did so only with Biscoe's permission, and on the condition that directions not make it on the site...and living in the Heart of the Homegrown Tour I can vouch for the large number of private courses in the greater Raleigh/Durham area. One that is listed, Higher Ground, actually caused a large uproar here on the site based on a review the owner didn't agree with. But at the same time I can think of 10-12 other courses that aren't listed (Sunshine Acres, Tar River, Country Course, Ramcat Ridge etc. etc)...

what i'm getting at is this: When I asked Mr. Biscoe why his course wasn't listed on DGCR he replied with "Well, I didn't think it would be right to review my own course." To which I replied with "Well, would you mind if I did?" He said no problem on the condition that directions never be posted, which I included in my review. I don't think it's wrong of me (not the property owner) to post some one else's course, with their permission. If it's done without the land owners permission it shouldn't be on here.

Oh yeah, and I love having 10-12 courses within an hour of me that very few of you guys know of....LOVE IT!!
