Brainwave-Like Disc Dyeing

The Punky Colour worked really well. I only had it on for 4 hours. In the pictures I actually toned down the color so it matched what it looked like in real life.

Did you heat it up or anything? I did heat etc etc couldn't get much out of it considering it was on for 2 days

I think that it has mentioned before.... the key is to keep the dye "moist" enough for the it to continue dyeing..... I just heat it up from time to time to try to get the dye to go deeper into the plastic. I am thinking that will keep the dye from fading over time.

Wow, great work guys!!! I don't care too much for dyes but the brainwaves have a special place in my heart, lol. I own a brainwave Destroyer that has been in my bag for several months now. When I got it, the colors were extremely bright and vivid. After only 3 or 4 months, the colors have dulled significantly. I wonder if that's because Jeff was in a hurry pushing out orders or if it has something to do with the dye itself.

what about a crappy pyrex on a heating tray. like the kind grandma or mom used to use. Im havent tried any of the dying but have been checking in. I see you guys need to keep it warm to go into the plastic further so maybe just set it to low and let it go?

Or make a bit of a double boiler with it and find a bigger pyrex or corningware and put a slight bit of water in it then the one with the dye in it

I am guessing that it is the dye... Jeff has the process completely figured out. I am sure that if there was some way to "lock" the color in that he would have already found it. Good to hear that people are actually out there throwing them.

I think maybe the dye. I tried using splat. And it was moist/wet till the time I washed it off. Can't wait to order some punky now though lol. I'm getting awesome looking designs. Just need to get em to stick

i guess i shouldve been a little more specific, does the UV additive in the Manic Panic actually glow when dyed and exposed to a black light or is the glow lost in the dyeing process?

Top is a Vulcan. Bottom is a Mako. Much better color and intricacies in person. I woke up at 5 AM to rinse these before work so I didn't have time to color correct the pics.

This was the first time that I used rubber cement on the bottom rim. It worked like a charm to keep dye off. Unfortunately I got a little bit on the face plate of the Vulcan and didn't realize it.

^ what colors are you using? I wish I had some white discs.

what red are you guys using? The one I've tried (can't remember which one right now) didn't produce any definite lines, just blurred red spots. On the other hand, the blue I tried worked out great with defined lines.

I've found that the red-based colors take to the plastic easier than the blue-based colors. That being said, I use the reds sparingly and on top of other colors. That way when you put the disc on top of the dye it's first exposed to the red and then the other colors fill in between it.
