Dynamic Discs statement RE:Am Worlds in Emporia will be a trophy-only tournament

see this is what i was saying in the other thread, you dont need to pay 50% out, the top 10 or so if there is 500 players. I totally agree with this and the pros should agree this is a great idea. I think this will make it more competitive b/c of such a small pay out field. Good job DD

Did raider really go that cheap and take a shot at the tornados tragedies? Pretty crappy on his end. And why bag on the idea when it has t happen yet. Players may actually like this idea once it happens and get their player packs

players packs.. hrmm stickers, bottle openers, disc no one will throw, disc that been out for yrs.. only good disc from last yr was the worlds ti nuke.. the teeshirts last yr were a joke in our players package as well,, very dissapointing.. a cotton puke yellow shirt .. plus listenin to DD say our packs are goin to be a certain amount, when all of us know that when orderin disc for tournys they are payin a max of $5 per disc so dont make it out that we are getting a leet rare disc worth ALOT.. they need to pay out 20% of the tourny and that is less than half of what they paid out last yr.. but to do trophy only.. when word gets out i wouldnt be supprised on a low turnout.. locals in KS will love it cause they will play since they wont have to travel like the rest of us would for a undervalued players pack and trophy only Worlds

We get it. You don't like it.

Stay home.

You're complaining about last year's pack? Go make a thread about it and complain there you troll. This isn't last year.

We all know? How many of their tournaments have you played Trolly McGee? You get dyemax molds of manufacturers like Latitude or LE stuff from Discraft and Innova. Dri Fits or flex fit hats with a logo that isn't lame, etc etc etc.

Get it through your skull, I'm telling you don't come. Play De La another time and pretend you won world's and go buy yourself another ugly yellow shirt like you already know you'll get. :D

You wouldn't want to get blown away by a twister, light weight.

Personally, if I didn't finish in the top 5-10 I wouldn't feel like I deserved anything.

I think tournaments payout way too far anyway. Good call DD.

BTW MrRaider: Every time I see a post from you I can only think of the BTK Killer, ironically from Kansas. Stay in Cali where the Tornadoes and serial killers can't get you..

And the point about disc nobody wants to throw is invalid. You must of never played a dd tourney. I have played in 3 over the past few months. Tourney 1 I picked up a volt and ascent. Both disc I wanted to try. The second was a first run judge putter and a northman plus a birdie bag and water bottle. This tourney was an escape and and pearly underworld that was released the day before plus a hat.

True Story. I lived in Wichita while that case came back in the early and mid 2000's I ran a few retail movie stores in the suburbs around Wichita one of them being Park City and a stone's throw distance from that guy's house. I watched him get pulled from his truck and arrested. He didn't have any late fees on his movies at the time thankfully.

Stay away from Kansas Mr. Raider. We're all nuts. :gross:

As a long time TD, I have thought it odd to be calling names for 15th place in a 30 player field. I think moving toward a lower percentage of payout in AM Divisions is just fine.

I've played in two dd tourney's this year. I play them for a reason. They do a great job trying to keep their players happy. I have also been working with their chasing chains division to set up a tourney for a new course I have been helping with. Again I chose to use them for a reason. Thy take care of their players and run a good tourney set up. The two I played I this year had 186 and 105. Both were capped out. So event size is great. I wish dd the best of luck and look forward to using them in October for my tourney

I agree, I just wish there was an airport a little closer to the event. They vended our tournament in Charleston, SC at Hampton Park in December and were fantastic! I just wish am payouts were more diverse with items other than traditional disc golf merchandise such as discs, clothing, etc. I also would like to see speciality disc golf merchandise such as art be available to ams for payouts. I generally donate my prints, calendars and photography books for ctp's to tournaments where I have played and players then have to buy anything they like with cash if they do not win a ctp. I did donate 180prints to the Charleston Classic last year of local holes played at Hampton Park and Trophy Lakes and many people seemed happy to recieve those. If I had prints of holes in Emporia I would definately donate them. For other tournaments not run by a disc manufacturer or vendor, I would like to see gas cards, gift cards, etc. for am payouts if this is legal to keep am status.

So what exactly is the criteria here that make this a DD problem? I see nothing in your analysis here that suggests this sort of thing doesn't also happen at non-DD events. The people who won't play their events because of this might as well stop playing tournaments altogether.

My point was that Jeremy posted that the trophy only rec format was originally implemented to solve the "bagging" problem, so I analyzed DD events in 2012 and 2013 to demonstrate that it did not have the intended effect. Where did you get that I was saying only DD events have a "bagging" problem?

The players feel like they have a better chance of winning something if the division has a cash line, so they don't feel better iff just staying home from other events.

This will never happen nor should it. The PDGA would be cutting their own throats by doing it.

What if there were an "unrated" division that you and other first timers, and anyone else unrated, could play in? Would you have tried that with an expectation of being able to establish a rating and enter the ratings protected divisions next time? I think the PDGA would actually get more members if playing ratings protected divisions were a privilege of membership.

Have you done a comparison of DD tournaments prior to the trophy only tournament change or compared the incidents of bagging in other non-trophy only tournaments? I may have missed it, but just saying that unrated people won 40+% of the time in Rec doesn't give much context. There's no way to say if that's a higher occurrence of bagging than any other event or not.

Also, FWIW, I know plenty of rated players whose rating puts them in Rec and they've won Rec by throwing rounds above 900. Around here, at least, you need to throw about that level to win in Rec.

What if you have fewer than four unrated players whether new PDGA members or non-members. Don't you have to place them in a division? If so, we get back to TD discretion as the policy is currently.

I'm not sure why there should be any controversy on the upcoming Worlds format. It's one of several formats allowed by PDGA sanctioning and it's not the first time it's ever been done. The hosts have the power (and risk) to make the call with regard to the format being offered presuming it's allowed as a PDGA option. The players have the power to attend or not.

All these haters act like they are entitled to win plastic for coming in 237th place. Why? Why do you play the game? So you can win a stock predator? I don't understand....

People that play tournaments during the year know they end up with more plastic then they even want for finishing mediocre or better. This format will up the ante and force you to play your best golf or sit back and enjoy your experience playing with people from all over the place.

I have always enjoyed DD events and will play them first before others in the area I live.

I back DD and Jeremy Rusco 100% and will be in Kansas.

haters gon hate.

Get rid of this "what can I get out of it" mentality. Ridiculous. Do you all complain as you sit down in an NFL stadium, paying $100+ for nose bleed seats and $15 nachos? You get jacked up on that, but you enjoy the experience don't you?

Let me get this straight, you pay ~$100 to play, you get $200 in merchandise/vouchers back, you get all kinds of events and such, you get awesome courses to play, and yet there is still complaining? Heck, if I won (which I won't) and I only got a trophy, I'd be pumped. Out of 500 competitors I beat you all, I wouldn't be thinking "man, what a weekend, good thing I'm getting some more discs out of this, otherwise it wouldn't have been worth it!"

If you are complaining about the trip costs, then this event isn't for you in the first place. Play for the competition and environment; more than likely you got kicked out of your beer league softball team because you thought your tshirts sucked and you didn't get any free balls for winning last place in the playoffs.

I do something similar often as well with artwork for CTPs, Raffles, door prizes. That is where they shine as a great value-added (better than commodity) prize or keepsake.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work as well for placing prizes. (good for trophies though) In our sport, like any activity, the one and only common denominator in the community is that we play disc golf - thus disc golf merchandise has the best chance to have universal perceived value. Even then, many don't like that as it isn't perfect for their tastes dujour. It might have even been a perfect match last year, but now... worthless. Moving target. But if you are running a big event, you go with what gives you the best chance for success.

It's a funny thing, but the psychology difference of a "bonus" prize (CTP, Door prize) vs. an "earned" prize (placing) seems to exist.

That being said, a gracious winner/placer with class smiles regardless.

As to player packs, etc. Never underestimate the value seen by a traveling player to have something that says that they "were there" . For me, having a way of displaying back in my hometown that I "Was at worlds" or "played in worlds" is a big thing - regardless of the shirt cotton weight or color.
