So, how did you play today?

Played 27 out at Vallarta on Saturday. First round since August. I was curious to see how an 8 month layoff ontop of the most inactive winter of my life would pan out. Teed off about 7:15 and pared #27 about 9:00ish beating the local disc golf season opener crowd that was queing up on # 1 and also the random starters on #3 , #5, #6, and #11.

Some discomfort today in the right hand back hand pectoral location.

The wierdish thing is remembering how much fun it is to throw these little plastic toys.
Couple moments of Valkyrie joy seeing that thing flip up and turn a bit right and then proceed with not much fade. 3 putted my first exciting birdie attempt from 25'. Hit a kneeler from under a tree on 17 for a two. Sweet steep Rhyno hyzer to get out of jail and around a tree on 14. Plus 1 82 from the shorts. Fall asleep dreaming of more.

Like riding a bike.

Long time away from the forums....

Played Huntington Beach with 15-25 mph winds and for the first time, played with a batter's glove on my throwing hand (Louisville Slugger series 5). The sheepskin felt the most like natural skin as far as grip/slip and my hand didn't get wet from sweat all day. Playing hard with DX 5+ rounds a week was taking it's toll on my skin.

First round I was turning over mids and putters off the tee until I got used to the glove but drivers and putting didn't seem to be affected. Plus 5 first round and 5 under second round. The glove only took one round to get used to.

I came out -11 at Valmont in Boulder on Saturday. A short course, I know, but my home, nonetheless. I have NEVER hit that number in front of people, let alone on our weekly Junkyard Shootout (Saturdays at Noon, if you are in the area!). Felt really good, automatic, and clear of focus. I actually had 12 birdies, but one boag on 9.
Fast forward to Sunday, when some homies drove us up to Bucksnort, just above Phantom Falls. My first mountain round! 21 holes, and I probably came out +15 or something. YOu could blame the thin air, you could blame the challenge of the course. A year from now, I won't remember the number (I already forgot the actual value...), but I'll remember seeing Kyle rip an old Orc across a valley that must have been 800' across. I'll remember throwing into the cave, and getting CTP on hole 21, where we really did empty our bags.

First time playing Nevin yesterday. Man, that course is a beast. Started 3, 2, 2, 7, 10 ... uh oh. But what an amazing course! I'm embarrassed that it took me a year to get there. Within 30 minutes from my house are Bailey, Bradford, Hornet's Nest, Nevin, and Stumpy Creek. Plus, a new one in the works. It's an embarrassment of riches.

I played the back nine on Zilker twice yesterday after work. I was throwing really well from the outset. I had maybe two bogies and half a dozen birdies over 18 holes, which is really good for me.

I was absolutely ripping my Tangent. I parked it 3 or 4 times.

The strange thing is: every time I tried to drive with my putters, I would grip-lock them and throw a pretty terrible shot high and to the right. However, I feel like the rim on my Tangent, which I threw consistently well all day, is very similar: very deep and vertical. I dunno... maybe it's a mental thing.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that my friend and I had no less than 4 near-misses on the course yesterday... and I'm not talking about aces. I'm referring to people that almost hit us with discs. One skipped right under my foot as I was walking. It was ridiculous. The idiots were out in force.

Granted, the back-nine on Zilker does have a lot of holes going back and forth, but only one of those four people that threw near my friend and I actually attempted (too late) to yell something, and it wasn't "fore". So, neither of us reacted. One person apologized.

I'm not sure how I would react if someone actually hit me with a disc. I did get tagged in the thigh with a golf ball once, and I threw it into a water hazard.

I cry for common sense and courtesy. :(

played 2 new courses today. millstream and sportsman hill. also played 2 rounds at calvary which is the only place i kept score. shot +1 and a +5 there. luck of the trees.

lost a disc at millstream. huge head wind. whipped a firebird. flipped to flat and rode it so nicely. hyzered some past the basket and into the creek on the left of the basket. current was going pretty good and i will never see that again. at least my last drive with it was 300+ ft in a headwind. nice pink fb, rip.

Not great. But after 3 months hiatus due to work I'm getting back. Had 2 bad holes that I took a 6. They got away from me and I need to try to salvage at most a 4 in those situations.
I need to build my arm speed back for sure. Shorts drives. I should have been able to make it up with upshots but just had trouble. My putting was decent though.
I just switched all of my fairway drivers so my bag is all Discraft, but the change is having minimal impact in terms of getting used to the discs. So...bad round but I learned a few things.

It wasn't a complete round, but I shot 8 under on 15 holes at Chester State park... holes 1-14 and 18. Birdied 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13. Bogeyed 11. Finally parred 18, and finally birdied 6. Wish we had time to finish but we searched for a disc for a little too long early in the round.

Played well yesterday for the most part. Practice putting has definitely paid off and I was hitting 3 all day (for the most part). Had some really bad drives and other various shots that put a hamper on things. Tried overhanding my Firebird to get out of trouble and was just chopping wood at every turn. I think it took 3 shots before I was out... it was bad.

Besides a few mulligans and really poopy throws I had some great upshots and putts. Had an awesome approach with the Zone on hole 2 at Hambrick. Had some awesome approaches with my Challenger that were straight at the basket but hyzered out just before getting there. Feeling better about things despite losing my Tangent and having a willy-nilly drive because of reworking my form.

Sank a lot of putts for par, though!

Recovering addict

Played 5-6 holes today (all pars) without too much pain after a 3-week battle with gout (age sucks); hopefully I'll increase play each day until I get through a full course (maybe this weekend). Prior to the gout flare-up I was playing 36 holes/day, every day--lack of play has been killing me! Initially I was barely able to walk when the gout flared, but walking actually helped. I remained "active" but not playing--(1) walking/de-trashing a course during my daily cigar to (2) helping set up a course for a tournament (OB flagging, etc.) to (3) being the course (Renny) TD for the Carolina Clash this past Saturday/Sunday. Monday and yesterday, I was feeling good enough to clean tee pads and do string trimming on several fairways (Plantation Ruins).

I can't wait until I am fully back into playing! 9-10 holes tomorrow?

played a round at kaposia even without some of the baskets in; it was fun. i find that i drive best after a few days off when my body feels almost like it's forgotten how to throw. i don't know why.

anyway, putting was stupid as usual. drives were very good.

went to the local football fields, did some field work. found something weird about my SPD, which is finally seasoning, and my champ TB. now that the SPD is seasoning it can't take headwinds the same. on a flat throw without wind it is more OS than my champ teebird; in a headwind it has a decent HST. the more i threw the worse i threw, but had some pretty good drives including a headwind drive with the champ TB that went 360'. probably going to focus on field work every couple days again for a while.
