So I was talking to a guy yesterday and he was talking about last years ace race thing. I have never played one before but have heard all the holes are shortened, so he said he counted his 2 aces last year to his ace count. Do those really count or not? Why or why not?

I think they do. You're playing with a disc that's brand new to you, which evens out the difficulty a little bit with the shorter holes. They are the holes that are set up for an event, so it's not like you're just playing from a random spot and counting it as a hole.

I would think so too because there are courses tht are that short and those count so why not these

How many aces does the winner of these events usually end up with? My regular course has a lot of short holes, but I still can't imagine somebody getting more than two if an ace race were held.

I was wondering that as well. I couldnt see anyone getting more then a couple and thats if they were real hot

They count hitting metal too, I bet a lot are won by a single metal hit rather than even hitting an ace.

Ya from the rules that I have seeni that metal is the tie breaker. I wish would have asked him how many won it or if he did.

I have heard that they are played backwards, so think of a course that is where you live and think about throwing a disc from the #8 tee box to the #7 basket. Sure some of these are going to have a little distance, but most of them are going to seem like a 50ft shot.

To me, a "true" ace counts on perm holes only. The actual hole designed to be played on the course.

Our '09 ace race winner had two aces, and three other people had an ace. Most people hit some metal. This year was a little shorter because its a putter. The shortest hole was about 95', but no hit that one. The longest ace was about 200', and think the others were around 120'-150'.

I voted yes, but I could go either way on it. The sticking point for me isn't that the holes are short, but that in an ace race, the holes are not meant to be played out, therefore there is no means to get a '2', a '3' or whatever. If you miss, you simply pick up your disc and move to the next hole.

Discraft recommends most ace race holes be between 180-250 feet. Most teepad to previous hole layouts wouldn't cut that. Usually shortened regular holes or a safari layout is used.

By that definition, someone hitting an ace at Am Nationals or USDGC couldn't count their ace as they are played on courses only installed for those respective tournaments.

I think they count, they are sanctioned events and there are tons of courses that have holes shorter than the typical ace race fare. Besides, what would you call ace race events if they weren't legitimate aces?

Last years winner for us had two aces and one metal hit I believe. I wasn't there but heard about it and I'm not sure what the hole distances were.

I am worried who is coming to enforce these "real" or "not-real" aces that people are claiming. Is there a disc golf gestapo? Because there seem to be a lot of threads devoted to whether aces "count"

They just put in a new course in Hitchcock,TX and they have a hole that is 90ft. I almost aced it with my putter. Would you call that an ace?
