2014 Am Worlds...Minneapolis

Yep, that's the one I was talking about.

The drama llamas are not hard to find.

Even though it happens all the time it always bugs me when people get upset about their "value" in a disc golf tournament. What other event can you partake in that lasts most of the day for nearly a week and that event only charges you under $200? It doesn't exist. Now the event gives you nearly that in merchandise. Still not good enough.
Im happy paying entry fees just for the experience of playing in a competitive organized environment. Maybe that's because I actually enjoy disc golf though, and I'm just trying to increase the quality of my life, instead of finding something to decrease it.

Its because AM disc golf has become all about how much money can I make from selling the discs I receive from payout or players pack.

There are some good points on there though, if you arent going to have any payout you should make sure everything else is pretty top notch. A lot of complaints attacking the TD personally, is he really that bad of a guy?

No water?

Guess the players need to go to the Discraft booth where they have that much advertised "FREE WATER ALL DAY"

Also, isn't Am Worlds always trophy only?

Exactly! Look at a typical 2 day B-tier. Tops out at $70-$85? 2 days of competition, probably 10 hours of golf. At least $500 added cash, usually more. Players packs usually a disc and a shirt at minimum, or comparable value. Trophies, etc. That's at a basic no frills B-tier, the better B-tiers blow these numbers out of the water at the same entry fee level.

What's it cost to run in a 5k? $30 with a shirt at the least? For an hour? A marathon, $100 and up? A bike race? One round of ball golf? A lift ticket?

We all make our choices based on what we want to do. Disc golf tournaments are by and large an excellent value for your entertainment or competition dollar. We've absolutely spoiled everyone and it shows in the rampant negativity and complaining. So many good TDs hang it up because they just don't feel like eating the s*** from a bunch of ingrates every year. Unfortunately, 100 thank yous and handshakes, while being awesome, sometimes do not outweigh the impact of an online smear campaign.

I'm not referencing the current AM Worlds complaints or situation - I have no knowledge or data on that.

Not to further muddy this fine thread...but something, eventually, has to give. The winds of change have been blowing in other threads...

Maybe in your area, but rarely do I find that this is true. It is the common thing to complain about but I know very few good amateurs that care whether they receive cash or not... mostly its the lower rated players worried about getting "free" stuff just for signing up.

If you go to an event like Am Nats...I personally spend over $1000 to travel and play. You really think Im worried about the $80 in payout that I can maybe get $50 for? In fact most highly rated Am's that I know play mostly open events and turn down cash so they can continue to enjoy the freedom to play major events all over the country...more cash than they would have won in Am.. And its CASH! they are turning down. The $800 or so I have turned down in Pro would have been about $400 in merch that I would get $200 for selling...so basically I've turned down $800 to get $200 so that I can continue to play in events that interest me...not events others think I should play in.

No its just silly internet people, I in no way feel that all the sillyness on message boards reflects what the actual DG population feels.

No, but there has been mention of different formats and other success stories out there in the real world.

Personally don't hold a dog in the fight. But two days in a row CDs have been arriving with less than a half hour to go for tee off at three different courses. Players found out upon arrival that the event was trophy only, actually there are still folks asking about that. Which I agree it should be trophy only as it is AMATEUR Worlds. Also been hearing no water available. Also wrong scorecards at certain courses.

On the flip side, their are people going above and beyond trying to get it right. All of us know that people complain at all events, but with something of this magnitude and with the time they had to get it right I would think things would have gone much smoother.

I waa at The Valley yesterday and there was water at every other hole. Two cases of Desani and cold bottles inside the shack. I didn't hear one complaint. Players from all over thought the tourney was great. They wish they had courses like this in their area. Not sure where your getting your info from Nate but it is not what I heard or saw.

Certain people should have kept their nose out of worlds. There is a large group of very unhappy customers up around here and all of it points back at two people. One who made "necessary" unnecessary changes and another who has never ran a well attended or liked event. It is really sad to see Mn being represented by these two jokers. I hope the majority of people are enjoying themselves and taking something positive away from worlds. The Mn disc golf scene is way different than what is being repped at worlds though imo.

lol at least its not as bad as when that benefit tourny that was held last year in mn, the TD pocketed the money

On the water subject.....really?....bring your own. Its a week long tournament....

The complainers are probably the same people that show up to job interviews without a pen....

Water is heavy. Some players need lots of it, and it's just not feasible to lug it around. Having at least one or two "water stations" at strategic points along the way can be lifesaving. Literally.
