What's in Your Bag: Part 2- MidRange

I always thought the Drone got a lot of love and bag space. Was I under the wrong impression? Or did that "overstable mids are useless" thread revolutionize disc golfers' lives everywhere?

Removing the Drone from my bag helped me clean up my form. I found myself forcing many shots with it when I probably could've used a stable or even neutral mid more successfully. As for the mids I'm currently using:

- 400G M2
- 400G M4 x 2
- 350RX M4

All under 160 grams ...... for the time being

From most to lest stable:

- FAF glow Gator
- Prototype Verdict
- Fuzion Verdict
- sparkle Opto Claymore
- retro Claymore

I don't have great armspeed, so mids are a very big part of my game right now.

DX Roc, beat half to death. Very understable, moderate fade, and the disc I can throw with the best touch on approach 150' and closer. Best $4 I ever spent.

Champion Mako3: Stable mid. Throw straight, goes straight. Throw anhyzer, goes anhyzer, with a tad of fade, given space. Throw Hyzer, goes hyzer.

VIP Tursas: Supposed to be my understable. It's more stable than the DX Roc, and will fade more than the Mako on anhyzer. I'm... not 100% sure why i have this disc. I think I keep telling myself it will beat in, and replace the DX Roc eventually.

Champion Roc3: Overstable. Whatever it does, it hooks predictably at the end. I threw this thing into a 35mph headwind, and it did it's job. Didn't anny. Just went, and hooked at the end.

Lucid Truth: Moderately overstable. Goes straight, ends with slight fade. Holds anhyzers fairly well. Not as good as the Roc3 in the wind, but pretty darn good.

Backup: DX Roc. It's waiting to get beat in in case I lose my other one. I should probably be breaking it in, huh?

I own an Evolution Element, and it might replace my Tursas.

FLX Buzzz
Z Buzzz
Z FLX Buzzz SS
Crystal FLX Drone
Squall

In addition, I currently am experimenting with using either a 400G M2, Buzzz OS, Buzzz GT, Wasp, or Crystal FLX Buzzz for the final spot.

I have been also trying an Evidence, VPro Cobra, Stingray for the under stable slot. I use to use the Stingray and quit using it for some reason.

ibex - the workhorse, straight, predictable
drone - overstable duty
warship - testing, for longer shots/tweener fairway

stratus - not in the main bag, but a great understable mid.

I'm kinda minimalist at the moment

Roc Old Rancho Dx- nice turnover straight with perfect slow turn

Roc Flat top KC Pro - work horse does a lot

Verdict fusion- slightly Os fades well with good glide.

Champ Gator- Beef

Kinda like Homeslice, I'm pretty minimalist currently.

I'm carrying a Fusion Truth and have been test-driving an Opto Compass but other than some glideyness/range bump from the Truth, I'm not seeing much of a differentiation on results. Both feel really good, but the Truth has been a little more locked-in and has been dead straight and dependable for me.

Also carrying an Alias, but haven't fallen in love with it yet. I tend to power down a XXX FH when I wanna go right so I haven't had a real push for a true understable mid in the bag.

I'm still missing a slam-dunk replacement for my old Champ Coyote that I could range with smooth glidey hyzers and I hoped the Alias or Theory might fill that slot but so for no dice.

I use a Spike for anything from about 100-150 feet - it will hold whatever line it's thrown on
M4 is essentially the same, except it's for longer shots (150-225')
Every shot between 100-225 that needs to move one direction or the other around obstacles, I pull the Andro C. If I need it to go right, I flick it FH; if it needs to go left, easy BH. It's really an amazing disc once you get used to it. Every time I play (it seems), I find a new use for it

That's it for mids for me

Nebula - straight
Evidence - stable-understable
Fuse - Very understable
N/A - overstable (use Breaker and Banshee instead of mid)

Champion Gator - Beefy
3x Champion Roc3 - Overstable
(Seasoned) 2x Champion Roc3 - Straight with very little fade
(Seasoned) DX Roc3 - Straight
Champion Mako3 - Turnovers

I tried to bag Roc3s again (as I do every couple months)...I just put Rocs back in my bag. I felt a Champion Roc3 performed better in the wind compared to a new KC. Then I remembered I had some Champion Rancho Rocs. Plus I don't like how my seasoned DX Roc3s fly compared to my seasoned KCs. Roc3s didn't even stay in my bag a week. Normally I keep them in there longer before switching back to Rocs :D

Champion Gator - Very Overstable
USDGC Champion Rancho Roc - Overstable
(Newish) KC Roc - Straight w/ very little fade
(Seasoned) KC Roc - Straight
(Beat) KC Roc - Understable

Understable- stratus
Stable- shark 3
Forhands- Wasp
Overstable- Gator

playing around with a roc for giggles. Might try and drop the wasp and go with the shark 3 after some more forehand work with it.

180 12x KC Pro Roc
176 12x KC Pro Roc
177 Flattop DX Roc

169 Z Buzzz

I could get by without the Buzzz if I hadn't had it for years. I use a powered down Firebird to handle OS duties.

Daredevil Caribou is the only true mid in my bag.

Although I use the Zone and the Viper as midranges.

Champ Roc3
Star Roc3 - seems less stable
Champ Mako3 - makes me wonder why I have the Star Roc3 in the bag except as a backup

17?g Neutron Tangent - flips up
17?g Eclipse Axis - line holder
175 Neutron Resistor * not a mid, but it fills my overstable mid spot. Hard fading shots from 50' to 250'

A Z Comet for US with a bit of fade.
There will be a Star Mako and/or an Axis, depending on wind and the course. I have a Star Mako3 and a Champ Mako3 on their way to me, and that may change or add to this. I also have a FLX Buzzz for colder temps.
Currently I am frequently switching in and out OS mids--Star Shark, Champ King Cobra, and N & P Vector--depending on the course (including what color will stand out best), conditions, and how I feel.
