Tobacco Policy

OTOH, if you're looking for the guy with the leader board all you have to do is look around for a mobile fog machine. :\

Random dude A: "Hey, who's leading this thing now?"

Random dude B: "Hell if I know, I haven't seen the board for 20 minutes. I'm waiting for the wind to pick up again"

Nice that they deleted the crazy unenforceable stuff. Would have been nice to encourage folks at player meetings and galleries to not be so selfish & rude to smoke in crowds.

The use of tobacco products by event staff, players, and by extension their caddies, is prohibited at all PDGA Majors and National Tour events, as well as those events held concurrently with those Major and NT events, from the two-minute warning until their scorecard is turned in.

...

For players and their caddies, any open and visual possession of any product banned under the smoking policy will be treated as a courtesy violation, and violators will be asked to put away the product until after the round has concluded. Subsequent violations will be handled per PDGA Rule 812.C with penalty throws assessed and repeated violations may result in disqualification in accordance with Competition Manual Section 3.03 - Player Misconduct.

Two questions regarding staff members:
1. what penalties are non-playing volunteer staff member subject to?
2. what is the equivalent of turning in a scorecard for staff members?

Pretty sure the bold falls into the category of "crazy unenforceable stuff".

Seriously: "concurrently"?

concurrent (kən-kûrˈənt, -kŭrˈ-) - happening at the same time as something else; synonyms - coincident, contemporaneous, simultaneous, synchronus

So the "no tobacco" policy applies to any tournament that overlaps in time with a Major or NT, even if it's on the other side of the country?

Or did they mean "concidental" (occurring or existing at the same time and place) or "in conjunction with"?

Dudes need to hire an editor who understands English.

They are referring to the AM side of an NT...

i had a buddy report to me that they refused to buy the new pdga member ship because of the oppression..

could be the start of a downfall...

That's the assumption, and it may well be their intent, but "concurrently" leaves open the possibility of broader application, in contrast to "in conjunction with" which clearly delimits the scope of application; and if the history of this .org demonstrates anything, it's that if a rule or policy can be made to apply more broadly, it will be made to apply more broadly: the earlier attempt to extend the tobacco ban to practice rounds and from check-in to the completion of the event, including periods between rounds, and to spectators as well, being another textbook example.

im lolzzzzing so hard.

caffeine has much more effects on performance than nicotine.

lol pdga. im literally laughing at you pdga. you goofs..

I don't think player performance has anything to do with the policy, but I could be wrong.

Pro: "I need a smoke so bad my hands are shaking and I'm missing putts!" :D

Especially before and after Daylight Savings Time. Those 8:00 am shotgun starts are super sleepy. If I wasn't dual-wielding twin Cokes in my water bottle pockets, I'd be doomed.

(Not a morning person. At all.)

I have a question. Here is the new policy:

On April 18, 2017, the PDGA Board of Directors voted to extend the existing PDGA Tobacco Policy, which previously only included PDGA Major Events, to also include National Tour events, as well as any sanctioned events held concurrently with those Major and NT events. An example of a concurrent event includes, but is not limited to, running an A-Tier for other divisions while a Major or NT round is also underway.

Additionally, another update to the policy is that it now extends to event staff.

The use of tobacco products by event staff, players, and by extension their caddies, is prohibited at all PDGA Majors and National Tour events, as well as those events held concurrently with those Major and NT events, from the two-minute warning until their scorecard is turned in. This prohibition includes all smoking and chewing tobacco products (excluding nicotine gum) as well as electronic and vapor cigarettes.

A Tournament Director may opt to provide designated smoking areas out of the public eye for players, caddies, and event staff to use during the round, and all rules concerning the pace of play still apply (Competition Manual 3.02). In cases where local laws and policies conflict with this policy, please contact the PDGA Tour Manager for guidance.

In one paragraph it clearly states tobacco use is prohibited from two minute warning until card is turned in. Then in last paragraph it says designated smoking area MAY be used by players during the round. So can a smoker smoke in the designated area during the round?
